That's completely absurd. You've never voted for a Democrat because you've never seen a Democrat that agrees with your core values. That's perfectly than valid, but it's because you're on the other side. You've never voted Democrat because you're not a Democrat. To suggest it's because you've never found a particular Democrat that is in line with your core principles is misleading. You're correct, you've never found a Democrat in a national election that runs on a conservative platform. That's because they're not conservatives.

 

It's like a liberal saying he'd vote Republican if one ever came along that favored universal healthcare, increased gun control, gay rights and was pro-choice. It's just not happening.

Sorry, but you're missing a few things. I wasn't old enough to vote for JKF because I was born the year he was elected president, but I could have seen myself voting for him had I been old enough. The Democrat values have changed dramatically since those days, that's why my parents are no longer Democrats. They feel the party has long left them. Perhaps some day the Democrat Party may come back near the middle, if so there's a chance I'll vote for a Democrat.

Again, I've voted Democrat in State and local elections. I've voted for Democrat for Governor and for Representatives in the past because I felt they were the better option at the time.

I guess I don't really mean they shouldn't be allowed to vote (although I'm not opposed to that idea in the least), moreso that they shouldn't have those "straight party" options at the polling booths. The voter should at least have to take the time to see who exactly they're voting for in each race IMO.

And that's what is wrong with America....party line voting for the sake of the party. I'll admit I've yet to vote Democrat for president but that's because thus far they haven't given me a candidate that falls in line with my core values. If they ever do, I'd have no problem voting for them though just as I've done in State and local elections in the past.

Well, I'm conservative and agree and identify much more with Republican ideals and values than Democrat but I've still voted for Democrats when I thought they were the better choice and will again. However, I respect and understand your position. :thumb:

No. I've never voted straight ticket. I've been a registered Republican since I was in high school and I've voted for Democrats in several elections. I plan to split my ticket this November by voting for Conway and Yarmuth in their respective races while voting for Hal Heiner in the Louisville mayoral race. The disillusionment your parents feel with the Democratic Party seems similar to the one I've had with the Republican Party over the last few years. The party has moved to a place too reactionary for my liking and I don't care for the brand of extreme libertarianism espoused by Rand Paul and those like him.

 

That said, the world is changing. My guess is that you'll see the Republican party eventually move some of its platforms to the left before you see the Democrats moving right again...

Yes, I am. I am not politically sophisticated like a majority of people on here. I have to pay taxes by law so unless they decide to do away with all taxes and let me keep that money I really could care less where it goes because I no longer have it once they take it.

I'm of a similar mind as you, PP92. Although, it's not so much that I don't care where it goes, because I do have opinions on where it could be better spent. But, I'm not opposed to paying taxes. I'm not opposed to paying more than some. I'm not unrealistic enough to think that any vote I cast is going to change anything to do with taxes either. The reality is that the price of a civilized society is that we will be taxed, we will take care of those who need, and sometimes we'll pay the way of lazy people. But, it's all in the name of the greater good.
