No chance. Upton is a decent young player, but nothing spectacular.

Do you put Bruce in that same category?

Sort of off the subject, what is the contract status of our catchers?

And you don't consider Cueto 12 wins and Volquez 17 wins last year PLUS Wood is big time star potential. That would be the worst trade of all time.
I didn't say anything about Cueto, Volquez and Wood, and I didn't say I would trade those guys, either. But we all know how a pitcher's health situation can be, especially compared to an everyday outfielder.

The topic was Bailey/Alonzo.

I also asked him what he thought it would take to get Upton.

IMO, you can let go of either Volquez, Cueto, OR Leake plus a prospect like Alonso. No way you give up more than one pitcher and it can't be Wood because he's a lefty.

I'd be willing to overlook the number of K's considering the rest of this team, as I feel their strikeout numbers will improve, especially Stubbs and Bruce. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a contact guy. However, if they turn those K's into a high OB%, they'll cost more than the above.

I believe the Reds have a option on Hernandez. Hanigan should be under the Reds control for a few years.

Are there any more Molina's out there?

Right now, yes. Although I think Bruce's potential is 10x that of Upton. JMO.

Ten times?

Why?

Ten times?

Why?

I'm pretty biased when it comes to Bruce, and I've seen him a lot more obviously, but I've just never been all that impressed with Upton when I have seen him. Probably an exaggeration on my part, but I'd still say Bruce has more potential.

Don't want one.

I am really satisfied with our catching duo. Did a great job this season, IMO. And Hernandez gives you an option at first base as a back up as well.

I like Bruce because he has a CANNON. And I think he figured some things out this season. Seems he grew up as a player to a degree. I expect bigger things, more consistency, fewer K's from him as the seasons pass. I like me some Bruce.

I agree, for this season. If the Reds are going to make the leap from NL Central contenders to NL/WS contenders then Hernandez/Hanigan are not the answer.

I know it's not popular. And I know Votto poopoo'd the idea. But if he would be the everyday LF'er, and with his improvement at 1B I see no reason he couldn't be a fantastic fielder out there. He'd be a shoe-in as an all-star for many moons. We would solve that issue and give the kid Alonso a shot over there. Just one guys opinion. I know we've been down this path before. But Rose did it.
