Would you make this trade. The Diamondbacks have a new GM in Kevin Towers. The DBacks set a ML record for K's this year by their batters. He has already le it be known that he prefers hitters that can give good AB and work the count, and make contact. It's expected he'll try to move some of their high strikeout players. Two players that fit that category are Justin Upton and Chris Young.

Upton 23, hit .273, 17 HR, 69 RBI, 73 Runs, 18 SB, and 152 K.

Young 27, .257, 27 HR, 91 RBI, 94 Runs, 28 SB and 145 K.

The Diamondbacks need pitching, and probably a young 1B since LaRoche will probably leave as a free agent.

If Kevin Towers calls you up, and offers you your choice of Upton or Young for Bailey and Alonzo do you make a deal? If yes, which player do you take, and why?

Edit.

Any more mistakes?

My initial vote was that the Diamondbacks wouldn't make the offer ... I'm still not sure they would, but if they did, I would take Upton and pronounce him my left fielder for the next several years.

Westsider, I see you selected there's no way the DBacks make that offer. Do you believe that there is no way they trade either player, or just not for Bailey and Alonzo. If you think they would entertain offers for them, what would it take in your opinion?

Yes I do this trade if I was the Reds. Either one.

I really don't see why the Diamondbacks would trade Upton, unless they feel like that he turn out to be a disappointment like his brother has been in Tampa Bay.

Young is a decent player, but I don't know that the Reds necessarily have a need for him, given that Stubbs can handle centerfield just fine.

Wrong Upton. Did you read my post?

What about Stephen Drew?

Move Young to LF.

Drew would be a better fit for the Reds, but I doubt that the Diamondbacks would take Bailey and Alonzo for a quality shortstop. I think Drew will eventually have to move to third base, which would also make him a fit in Cincinnati.

For Drew, I'm guessing that Arizona would want something like Cueto or Volquez, Janish, and maybe Wood over Alonzo.

Yes, but I would rather have Upton for left because of his age and likely development.

Volquez and Wood? No way I trade both if I'm the Reds.

I'm not saying I would, either, but the asking price for Drew or Upton would be considerably higher than Bailey and Alonzo. I'm not sure they're even enough to get Young.

I still think you guys overestimate Alonzo's value, at least for the moment.
