Brady, P Manning, E. Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Rivers, Big Ben, Flacco, Ryan, Favre, Schaub, Romo, McNabb, Vick are better no questions asked I think. That is 14. Is CP better than guys like Sanchez, Bradford, Kyle Orton and Cutler? Even if he is that would make him average at best in terms of starting QBs. So let's please stop with the above average crap for CP. He's not even that right now.

 

He absolutely owns Flacco. I'd take CP over Flacco every time. Romo is very similar to CP. Decent stats early, a lot of pub, nothing major to show for it. Ryan had a worse second season than first. Bradford? Come on. For the future for sure you would take Bradford, but right now? Cutler hasn't had a winning record since high school. CP has won a very good division twice all while having an idiot owner that never has won it without CP. I think you are giving way too much credit to CP's receivers. Chad isn't that good. Owens is old and in decline. They are all 3 not as good as their image including CP. I would say he's in the top half of all starting QB's in the league making him above average though.

It starts with Mike Brown. Trickles down to Bart. Palmer shoulders blame as he has been less than average thus far. I understand new players around him but he hasn't played well. The are dumb for not running to set up the pass more. The Oline hasn't played as well. The defense let a WR get deep down the sideline to lose the Bucs game so some is on them. There's lots of blame to go around. It's not hard IMO. When your foundation isn't solid (higher ups) then you are never going to flourish. If I'm Cincy I am pounding the ball this week to set up the pass. Teams have made fun of the Bengals because they double Chad and TO. Well that is on Bart and Palmer! You went out and drafted a 1st round TE to open up the same so USE him! That's why you went and got him. Run the ball, open up the middle and the big plays will come with Chad+TO on a consistant basis. I like Shipley a lot when he's healthy. He's a matchup problem too. Cincy needs to quit trying to do so much and get back to fundamentals. They are talented enough to get things turned around although the schedule is brutal!

One major problem with Palmer is the managment is so bad they have painted themselves in a corner. There is no legit backup to push Palmer or bench him to wake him up. Jordan Plamer lol what a joke!

CCC, CP is part of the problem, but you are way off if you think he's the 5th worst QB in the league. Part of CP's problems are his surroundings. He's not great. He's not really good. He's above average and he has a terrible line. His primary receivers are attention hogs that drop passes that high school kids think are easy. His head coach is terrible. His owner is worse. The picks are a big issue, but aren't they expected for him by now? He is what he is. A decent QB in a bad situation.

 

Some fans of the Bengals crack me up. Palmer manages a game and beats a very good Baltimore team. Yet fans are terribly unhappy and pound Bratkowski. This team needs to get back to running the ball and playing good solid D. The problem is since CP has a few new toys they want to throw it all over the field. They need to run to set up the pass again and limit CP's throws. It's boring as heck, but it wins them games. They don't have the coaching staff or discipline to win the Super Bowl, but they can win 9 games. The Saints and Chargers don't look like world beaters. If they can win those games it makes up for the last two really terrible losses. If they get back to running the ball a lot they have a better chance at seeing the playoffs. It's still a long shot, but it could be done.

I don't play that game. I do know that Indy, SD, New Orleans and Atlanta don't look exactly like world beaters and there's no reason to think every game left on the schedule isn't winnable if they run the ball and play good D.

Not really. He looks freaking awful 95% of the time. Not many ways around that...

 

If you agree with that statement, then how was this game lost by anything other than a game coaching decision? Your up on an opponent by seven points with 2:25 left. They have no time outs. It is 3rd and 15. Run the football. Punt on fourth giving them a 1:55 to drive 80-90 yards for a touchdown with no time outs. They had scored one offensive touchdown the entire day. Instead the Bengals throw an INT off the hands of a high dollar reciever, who I will also mention had his hands turned the wrong direction, and eventually lead to a spiral that loses the game in regulation. It is not a competative product, and I am really getting tired of spending $7.75 for a beer to watch this crap at the stadium.

Bengals apologist do not realize that other teams actually have faults and limitations too. Cincy has the talent to make or at least compete for the playoffs. Cincy has the offensive talent for an average QB to look above average, an above average QB to look good and a good QB to look very good. The OL is bad, but Benson has put up numbers the last two seasons....that doesn't add up. The Bengals WRs drop passes but guys on the Colts, Patriots and Saints do not. Carson Palmer cannot be held accountable for throwing into coverage late in a game that he is leading in. His owner, coach and teammates continue to let him down and are the reason he looks so terrible. He's not terrible, not even Johny Unitas could move the ball with the likes of TO, Chad OchoCinco, Gresham and Shipley.

Orton never once looked like that good of a QB in his career, then he goes to Denver where he is with a great offensive mind and he looks great now. Cutler looked good in Denver, but then left and last year sucked with the bad OC they had. Then they get Martz and he looks good again. The OC plays a big role for QB's. The line pass blocking plays a huge role, and receivers catching the ball. All things the Bengals suck at. I am not taking away all blame from Palmer, because his decision making this year also has been awful. He looks like he did his rookie year with his decisions.

Pass blocking and Run blocking are two totally different things, but in the NFL they go hand in hand. Maybe a team that is great at blocking the run is only above average in pass blocking, but I can't think of an example where a team was great at one thing and awful at another. I will say that I think playcalling plays a huge role in effectiveness of a team blocking either, especially in the NFL. Of course that is just my observation, but seeing as how I know nothing about football according to you maybe you could teach me the differences.

Last year Benson would have had 30+ carries and Scott would have had 6+ in a game like that and they would have won by a TD or more, but I agree that he needs to take better care of the ball. Part of helping him do that would have been running the clock down and punting on their second to last series. No matter how bad the throw was from Palmer the call was worse.

That's because he did help "save" this franchise. He isn't elite and for anyone to say he is any more is laughable. But he has won for a franchise that hasn't won for two decades without him in the best division in football for the last 10 years.
