If Edmonds can't go, I'd much rather have Alonso on the roster than Francisco. The reason they gave for Francisco was that he could play 3rd in case Rolen got hurt. Well if Rolen got hurt you could replace him on the roster mid series. Otherwise Francisco will only be used as a pinch hitter and IMO Alonso would be much more productive in that role.

I think it's almost a wash. I guess they think Francisco gives them more pop. At least his swing looks like it would...

.207 avg. 6-29 with 3 RBI's

.273 avg. 15-55 with 1 HR & 7 RBI's

Not sure where you get Alonso being better than Francisco....:idunno:

Large sample. Just from the look test, I think Francisco whiffs at a Dunner-like rate. I think Alonso looked like he had a better clue at the plate.

That's what I was looking at but it's such a small sample size for both. For instance, two more hits for Alonso and his average jumps nearly 70 points.

jinx

I agree it's a small sample size, but Alonso looks clueless at the plate IMO. Francisco at least gives them some solid ABs here and there.

Like I said the other day; when you're right, you're right...

Do humongous cuts constitute as good AB's? If so, I gave up too early.:D

What have you been watching? I totally disagree.

"Why do you swing out of your shoes with 2 strikes?"

"in case I hit it"

Alonso has K'd once every 2.9 ABs.

Francisco has K'd once every 2.75 ABs. Not much of a difference if you ask me.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe by observing their AB's. There's no doubting that Francisco can hit the ball into the Ohio river. But hes far to much of a free swinger. Alonso has much better feel at the plate.

FWIW, their numbers over the past month are very similiar. Francisco did most of his damage Aug 3-9.

I think you have the two confused...

Since I live just outside Philadelphia I'm going to have a lot of fun being the lone Reds fan in enemy territory. I plan on putting that on display tomorrow. Though, I think I will opt for the liquor store instead of the bar tomorrow. I'm excited. Let's go!

Nope. Every time I watch Alonso bat, it's 3 pitches and back to the dugout.
