It's mostly Saturday. It goes from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday.

I had no clue on this question:

The other one I got wrong is because the Big Lebowski had me fooled thinking that the Jewish Sabbath started on Saturday.

Well, I will be the first to admit that I'm no Biblical scholar, so I missed one of those. I also am not 100% up on what public schools can/can't do with regard to the Bible, so I missed one of those questions. And to be honest, the reason I chose private schools for my kids was because I believe that academics with a religious influence is so important that I never really took the time to learn the exact limits/allowances in the public schools. So, that's how I missed the two that I missed. The only one I'm ashamed of missing was the Biblical question.

 

And I can't understand how anyone missed the Jewish Sabbath question, given the answer is in the Bible. How can you know the Bible so well and miss the Sabbath question?

I scored 14 out of 15. I missed the Pakistan question, which was foolish of me. I was surprised by the Atheist/Agnostic compilation, not surprised by the high-scoring Mormons. The Mormon missionaries are very sharp, very well-trained.

Contrary to popular belief most atheist/agnostics are well versed on a variety of religions as many have "explored" prior to coming up with their belief. I actually assumed that would be the highest group and I like you would have put Mormons high up there as well.

 

I would say 80% of current religious affiliation is a product of birth.

And seriously, how could anyone miss the question about Shiva assuming everyone has seen Temple of Doom?

Well...the folks at The Pew Charitable Trusts (who sponsor the Pew Research Center think tank) are big on pushing philanthropy through awareness and education, which is why they give so much money to PBS, NPR and othe public media. I think the point was to try to show Americans how little they know, in general, about each others' (and even their own) religious beliefs and practices.

 

I'm still kind of wondering, however, if it may have had some secularized undertones. I'm thinking perhaps that they were anticipating certain results, and trying to accomplish something along the lines of, "Let's see how much you 'religious-types' really do know, or how much of your Tea Party, 'America is a Christian nation' rhetoric is just a bunch of hot air".

I remeber the sabbath due to Sandy Kofax. He didn't want to pitch friday nite, nor Saturday, but would on Sunday. I also guessed on three and got them right, I should have missed 4.
