The biggest game in Kentucky during the regular season, but not the game that really counts as far as winning the State Championship Games are concerned, but one that the teams and fans really enjoy. GO ROCKS

 

Well stated. The playoff \\ title games between the two are decidedly different. Entirely different atomsphere and feel to them.

Seriously, how is this game "Good for Kentucky"? It's always a great game with tons of fans, but outside of the T/St. X "family," how does it affect the state?

They're not in the national conversation. Yes, they may read a blurb about them in USA Today but is out of the national mind as soon as they hit the Life section.

 

I don't think it's reflective of KY football in the least. Two private schools with 1500 boys paying $8K to $10k per year to attend isn't something that the vast majority of the state recognizes nor cares about. You think people in Inez are talking to their friends in West Virginia about this game? You think the people in Louisa are? Its' talked about in Louisville by the movers and shakers.

THE GAME was broadcast nationally in 1990, is annually one of the highest attended games in the entire country, & was featured on CBS Sports in an hour long special 2 seasons ago. Anything that brings that kind of attention to KY high school football is a good thing, regardless of what the good folks in Inez & Louisa may be discussing w/ their neighbors...

The fact that it was on TV TWENTY YEARS AGO and the fact that it draws the highest crowd in the country for a single game is totally irrelevant to anyone outside of Louisville. The two schools probably graduate 750 boys per year combined who are loyal to their school. They come back after college and become leaders in Louisville so it's only natural that they would draw great crowd. Add in that they're two of the top schools in the state each year and it adds up to a big game.

 

It doesn't, however, mean anything to 99% of Kentuckians outside of the fine city of Louisville. That's not a criticism of the programs, the quality of football, or the fans. They should have a huge crowd every year and they do.

 

Just because people in Inez and Louisa agree that the two schools produce the top two teams annually or that they would enjoy seeing the game does not mean it's a good reflection OF Kentucky football or that it's good for the state as a whole.

 

Put your egos aside for a second and think about the facts I've laid out and ask yourself the following: HOW is the football played in this one game good for Lawrence County's program or their fans?

 

Why don't you bring over the good folk from Inez & Louisa and see that they think? I have been to both - and I think they would really enjoy it.

Great game for High School football in the state. Every year I see fans of many schools from outside of Jefferson County in attendance. It's a great atmosphere with tailgating like a college or pro game hours before the game to the huge crowd in the stands each year. Hate us if you want, but Keep it Real just sounds a little envious to me.

I voted it is good because of the recognition and hype nation wide.

 

However one reason it's not necessarily good is the notion of the rich getting richer. The profit for each program generated from this one game pretty much trumps anything else other schools could accomplish. That notion is of course if you believe that the strangle hold that X and T have on 6 A football is bad.
