When Ryle scored their last touchdown to go ahead in the game there was only 1 minute 24 seconds left on the clock. I don't have a son in Cooper's football program, but I have been watching them regularly. I really think Cooper football showed everyone that they can compete with anyone in the area. Please don't give me the line about Ryle having a bad game. (as someone mentioned earlier post) I feel that Ryle had the best game they could have mustered against an underrated Cooper team.

Hmm....a coach and the newspaper both say he had 171 yards but I guess they're both lying since the coaches believe in their team and think they can win state. Makes sense to me.

Conner had a win over Scott and Lloyd I think Ryle is not as good as everybody thinks stop the run and u can beat them.

The difference in this game was Special Teams. Ryle's punting, punt returns, kickoffs and kick returns gave Ryle approximately a 300-yard field position advantage. I will give credit to Cooper punter who was able to hit the coffin corner twice, but to compare the special teams performance in this game it was Ryle's men against Cooper boys. Cooper allowed easily received punts to hit the ground and roll dozens of yards giving up dozens of critical field position yards and then made risky plays fielding the bounding ball, and then called a fair catch when it was completely unnecessary. Their kickoff team was even worse with short, line-drive, zero hang-time kickoffs routinely returned past the 50. Cooper should have tried to on-side kick -- they might cover one as well as less likely to be returned for a TD -- like their first one was by Ryle's Caleb Lonkard who did not hesitate for a minute to take it to the house. Their PAT/FG crew was 'lucky' to make one PAT and appeared incapable of attempting a FG if they ever need one. Meanwhile Ryle kicked off into the end zone often, made their PATs and punted like a college team (when the long snaps weren't too high.)

 

Cooper will not win the close games until it gets this part of their game in order and on par with other NKY teams. Suggestion to coach -- talk to the soccer coach.

So if Cooper would have done good on Special Teams they would have beat Ryle with ease?

Elliott had 85 yards rushing, per Ryle stat official. A computer error gave him credit for some yardage.

 

I guess my "eye test" was right. He ran hard but the Cooper defense swarmed to the ball and didn't break loose for any big runs. I was finding it hard to believe he had 170 yards.

I really, really hope that Cooper gets their wish to be placed in 5A. Please make it happen.

Now, just because they may be the favorite doesn't mean they will win. I actually think if Cooper doesn't blitz these passing teams that it will be a close game. SK, according to the paper, blitzed all night and Cy had 66 yards passing. Cooper will score often against Conner this year if Bradley stays healthy.

I think the people who kept saying Cooper still won't win a district game this year, might want to change their thinking. I been saying if people actually have paid attention this year to them, they would see that Cooper has a nice team thsi year. Coach Borchers and staff have been doing a great job with that program.

I counted over 20 coaches and another 25 people on the sideline (literally 45 people) that were not in uniforms. This would include ball boys, trainers, etc.. but 20 or so were in shirt and ties so I'm not sure if it was a special circumstance or do they really have this many coaches. No big deal, just curious.

Are you referring to a JV game? If so, Conner may, or may not, have an edge. We will have to see. But, remember, JV is usually made up of a lot of Soph's and there are 4-5 Cooper Soph's that start and play ONLY Varsity so you are seeing the future on Friday night's as well.

I didn't get to see this game, but from what I have been reading both teams played their butts off. The thing that I haven't seen anyone on this thread actually mention is that maybe Cooper might be a lot better than people even think. I get tired of hearing that this team or kid had a bad game. Not saying this doesn't happen, but this is usually more of a cop-out. Here's a thought........maybe Cooper created match up problems for Ryle. If anyone thinks that the Ryle kids didn't want to stomp them into the ground, then your crazy. The other thing is that Ryle is the only team from Northern KY to even play a close game with the best team up here, HIGHLANDS, so I wouldn't say that Ryle is overrated. Highlands might even be the best team in the state.

Both teams coaches wore ties. I was told it had something to do with both schools have a "Randall Cooper" Relationship. (Ryle had him as a principle and the other obviously was named after him) I hope it becomes a tradition.
