September 24, 201016 yr According to this report filed on KSR. 1. Eric Bledsoe earned his grade according to the Superintendent of the Birmingham Schools and his Algebra III teacher. 2. The difference in the report and his final grade was due to some makeup work done by Bledsoe that led to a grade change. 3. The teacher said the makeup work warranted the grade change that was given. 4. The report goes further to say they have no evidence to the contrary to show that the makeup work was not done. 5. Report said that there may have been issues with documentation and support showing work, but Superintendent was firm in belief that the grade was deserved. 6. The report does raise questions about the school board’s policy in terms of how long people have for makeup work, but the Superintendent did say that Bledsoe earned his grade. 7. The Birmingham News has looked at the full report and has released this article in which they say that the reasons for the grade change were “not credible.” 8. Nevertheless, the school board will take no action against Bledsoe’s high school and will only make changes to policy propsectively. http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/
September 24, 201016 yr The title of this thread does not match up with the Birmingham newspaper article.
September 24, 201016 yr It seems to me that the investigation found that something was wrong, but they're unable to locate exactly what it is because the teacher & people in question stand by the grades. So, if you can't prove the wrongdoing, there was no wrongdoing. I must admit this is sketchy. Regardless, Kentucky shouldn't be implicated unless they were behind the grade changes...
September 24, 201016 yr Author The title of this thread does not match up with the Birmingham newspaper article. The title of this thread matches what the school superintendent stated. As far as I know he has more say on Bledsoe's grades than the Birmingham newspaper. I don't know for sure though. Perhaps Alabama Larry could fill us in a little better.
September 24, 201016 yr What did you expect the newspaper to say? This report doesn't jive with what the previously reported. This newspaper along with the NY Times acted irresponsibly and damaged a young man's name. Bledsoe should sue all involved.
September 24, 201016 yr Bledsoe has the money now he needs to sue the snot out of the folks that slammed him and tried to smear his name! Go Big Blue!

September 24, 201016 yr Waste of time and money. Why? Had it been a normal student or anyone else people would pursue them to do so but because he's a basketball player it's different? Something should be done, and if the newspaper won't do it willingly then Bledsoe should force their hands on the matter. IMO Pete Thamel (sp?) should not have a job after today.
September 24, 201016 yr Bledsoe has the money now he needs to sue the snot out of the folks that slammed him and tried to smear his name! Go Big Blue! He'd be much, much better off to just let it go then to sue & drag it out any longer than necessary. From what I can tell, it sounds like there were some grades being changed. The independent review found that the grade changes "were not credible" but couldn't meet the burden of proof. Just let it go...
September 24, 201016 yr Mitch Barnhart's Statement on Bledsoe: "We maintain our reliance on the high school, university and NCAA eligibility center for initial eligibility and will continue to do so. At no point was the University of Kentucky under investigation by the NCAA nor had any reason to believe we were ever under investigation."

If someone released my child's transcript to a scum bag like Thamel I would have his hide. There needs to be some accountablility.

September 25, 201016 yr Forget and move on. I know Bledsoe and his family are probably ticked to no end that his name was smeared, but it's best not to allow this to continue. Newspapers would like a Bledsoe lawsuit even more than the original story.
