Holmes 28 Cooper 20

Featured Replies

Peterson big day for the Bulldogs. I heard Burlington was rocking.

Wow, looks like a close game.

Great atmosphere and two teams that gave it their all. Very close game all night long. Multiple plays that could have changed the outcome but Holmes deserves all the credit for hanging on for the win on the road.

Holmes' first drive was down to the Cooper 10 and the player fumbled and recovered by Cooper but the ref said his knee was down. I was less than 20 feet from the play and there was little doubt it was a fumble. During a time-out I asked the "extra" official who was in street clothes and had a clip board what he thought he he gave me a look but said he couldn't comment. This was the first drive of the game and although Holmes scored I'm not blaming the loss on this call. Both teams had an on-side kick recovered. Both teams had unsportsmanlike penalties that kept drives going. Both teams had 4th and goals stopped.

One play that didn't decide the outcome but was interesting was when Cooper QB Morris had a keeper for about a 50 yard score to come within 1 with about 3 minutes to play and Coach Borchers goes for 2. I was discussing during the Jag's drive with a couple of friends that if we scored I would go for 2 and the win. Sure enough, they go for two and a pass to Collins was ruled that it hit the ground first. I didn't have a good look as it was the far side but numerous players were jumping up and down and Collins said later that he caught it and by his actions after the play, he clearly thought he did. So, Cooper down 1 and the Jag's hold on the first 2 downs and it is 3rd and about 9 and Holmes has a long pass to #11, who is very good, down to the 3 yard line. Two plus minutes to go and Cooper coaches tell the players to let them score, which Holmes didn't realize or they could have eaten the time off the clock. Score 28-20 and the Cooper drive stalls. Both teams were physical and good game to watch but for our sake a tough loss.

Good luck to Holmes the rest of the season.

Sounds like a real barn burner! Congats Dogs!!

Walter, if you were there tonight what is your opinion of the soph QB, Morris?

Very good game and pretty sloppy for the bulldogs but they held on and got the win in a game alot of people would say was Coopers biggest game of the year. Desean Peterson had four catches for 108 yards and a td. He had an unbelievabe one hand catch in which the corner grabbed him and was called for pass interference which went for about 40 yards. #2 Greg Clemons was very effective at running back and his LB'er spot. Bradley had a nice game and Cooper did what they needed to have nice long drives and chew clock. Morris looked very good for a soph. he controlled the game and made some plays. The one thing that Cooper can not afford is falling down by a couple scores when they had the ball with 1:40 remaining and trying to air it out they had trouble and the o-line struggled the one thing Morris can work on is when he is scrambling is keeping his eyes down field several times recievers broke away from coverage when he was scrambling but this will come with time he will be a special ball player for Cooper!

Did they move the game from Union?:sssh:

A lot of good points here. On the last drive Cooper was down 2 OL due to injuries and he had very little time to throw as the pressure was there quickly.

Couldn't make it to this one since I was covering the Newcath-Ryle game, but from what I heard, this was a very good game.

Big win for the Dogs on the road. The Cooper players viewed this as a game that could seriously boost the program even more. To come up just short for the second year in a row against the Dogs, has to be frustrating for Coach Borchers and his players.

Definetly a learning experience for both teams though and I think these two playing eachother can do nothing but help one another the rest of the season.

Morris finished with 82 yards on 11 carries and was 9-17 passing for 119 yards. Not bad for a soph against an athletic and very fast defense like Holmes'.

The ref made the right call here. The ball clearly hit the ground.

Very nice win for a Holmes program that looks to be on the rise.:thumb:

Of course, Highlands gets the credit, according to another thread or two. When Holmes had to face Highlands in their district, they abandoned all hope. Now that this is not the case, Holmes has reason to go forth and prosper.

It's funny you should say that, because I went to this game, and lots of Holmes people were saying this better be that year, because next year Highlands is back in the district and the run will be over.

Very impressed with Bradley of Cooper, and Peterson for Holmes is awesome and just a sophomore.

Is it safe to say that Peterson is the best WR in nky, regardless of class?

He has had over 100 yards in every game this year, including the two scrimmages against NCC and SK. I believe he also torched Highlands and Campbell Co in the 7 on 7's.

I have seen quite a few teams this year in Northern Kentucky-not all, but yes I would say he is above the rest. Makes great athletic plays and has great speed while the ball is in the air to get away from the defender. I also would say the two quartercks in the game last night have some nice potential.
