I thought gchs_uk9's hard work deserved it's own thread. There is a strong chance no one will be allowed to play up in class, which would make this list pretty close.

What do you think?

I personally can't see how or why the Northern Kentucky 6A district would leave one team out and district them with Louisville area schools.

Will Graves and Apollo drop to 5A? Are they playing up now or is something changing I wasn't aware of?

Nevermind, just saw the other thread.

Graves and Apollo drop to 5A under the new alignment.

1A has the low 32 schools

6A has the high 32 schools.

Everyone else falls in between

I personally can't see how or why the Northern Kentucky 6A district would leave one team out and district them with Louisville area schools.

Could you suggest a solution? It's going to be a 32-team 6A, so balance is a must. Maybe Ryle instead of SK since I think the trip would actually be shorter for them?

Won't the new consolidated McCracken be a 6A and be open by the time this is implemented? I know the Nelson Co. split isn't until 2012-13, so that creates a dilemma as well.

I thought McCracken wasn't opening until 2012. If that's the case, they would have one year in and one year out. I could see the KHSAA bumping them up to that western Kentucky 6A district (making it five teams), or keeping them in whatever district Lone Oak will play in. Either way it's something of a negative for the KHSAA.

That is a problem. But with only 32 teams, there has to be 8 four-team districts. Somebody in northern Kentucky has to get bumped. I chose Simon Kenton in my proposal simply because they participate in the 8th region in all other sports.

To my Garrard County friend great job and a lot of hard work! The only difference I would make would be this. In 5-A I would move Montgomery County and Madison Southern to District 6 and move East & West to District 7 only because they are in the region for other sports right now. In 4-A I would keep Russell County in District 2 and move Lex. Cath to D-4 to keep them in Boyle's district. In 4-A district 7 could be a lot of fun. In 2-A I'd move Somerset to District 4. Only to have them in the same district with Danville.

Nice job. Looks pretty close to what I figured. 2A is very tough b/c you don't have many schools in EKY.

If the KHSAA is determined to keep districts balanced then someone will have to and looking at the geographic locations of each school your districts make sense.

That's a huge problem when trying to do this. There just aren't many schools so you have to stretch it to make it work. But you're right, 2A is almost empty in eastern Kentucky.

To clarify, BEZebra means moved East and West Jessamine to district 7. I weighed that and will probably change it.

As for the Russell County/Catholic deal, that is likely what the KHSAA will do. Either way works. Russell County is sort of an anomaly; they don't seem to fit anywhere.

As for Somerset, I would think they would try to move to 3A. But if they can't, I thought a trip to Glasgow was easier than a trip to Fort Knox!

You are so right with regards to Russell County. I know they are wanting to come back to the 12th region in Basketball and Baseball. I agree Somerset will try to move up, but from what I'm hearing that is not going to happen, schools are going to be required to play in their class. You're right a trip to Glasgow would be easier, but thought the Danville/Somerset would be interesting. Anyway, great job. I like what you have done.
