Color me shocked the Reds didn't win today. No worries. I think it's Harang vs Jiminez tomorrow. That's a good match for the Reds. The Cards will get swept in Milwaukee. The lead will be 10 games by the end of the week and the magic number in the teens.

“It’s part of the learning process,” Dusty Baker said. “Trust your catcher to direct you through the ballgame.”

 

Bailey shook off catcher Ryan Hanigan before throwing the fastball that Matt Holliday hit out for a three-run homer.

 

Bailey got ahead of Holliday 1-2 in the count. Holiday fouled off a 78 mph curveball that Hanigan nearly caught for the third strike. Holliday fouled off another pitch.

 

At that point, Bailey shook off Hanigan twice. Bailey said he wanted to go outside out of the strike zone. He said he shook off the pitch and location.

 

“I wanted black or off (the plate),” Bailey said. “I didn’t get black or off.”

 

He missed his spot with a fastball right down the middle. Holliday hit it into the left seats. That was ball game.

 

“I thought that was my only mistake the whole day,” Bailey said. “And it ended up costing us the game. I just got to execute that pitch better

Check the posts. I never doubted that Hanigan wanted a different pitch but as Bailey stated above, the bigger problem was the location of the fastball. He wanted "black or off". That was the major problem, IMO...and his. Holliday could've hit any pitch in that location over the fence.

Sure he could have hit any pitch in that location for a homer, but when he's sitting on a fastball, I'm betting another breaking ball would have made him look about as bad as he did on the 1-2 pitch. As a stated earlier, listen to your catcher, and quit being so hardheaded. Now you and Clyde take the same advise, listen to spindoc and me, and quit being so hardheaded.

Well obviously if he didn't miss the spot it might have been different. If he wasn't being so stubborn and threw the pitch he should have it might not have happened.

He hung a curveball earlier in the AB and Holliday still looked like an idiot. Holliday is a fastball hitter, as Bailey should have figured out in the 2nd inning.

While not the same overpowering pitcher he was before the All Star break Jimenez can still be very difficult to score runs against. Here are his numbers the last 6 starts. Obviously the Rockies have not been scoring many runs in his starts, thus the 1-4 record in his last 6 starts. Here's hoping the Red's can score a few and keep the Rockie's bats at bay until they can bring in the nasty boys.
