Marvel challenged me on my contention that Mr. Beck is a huckster and has a proclivity for lying. While examples were provided I'm guessing they were rationalized away by some.

The video is even better because he's so dramatic as he's reenacting the holding of the Washington speech.

 

Did he truly believe that no one would ask how a commoner gets to hold such an historic document? No one was going to ask the people responsible for maintaining the documents?

 

That's what's scary. He lied even though he knew it would be checked.

I wouldn't say he's pathological. He knows what he's saying and he can control it. It just fits his narrative. My question is this- what is Beck doing that is different than Obama 2 years ago? He is preaching hope and change, just not using those exact words.

The "dude" is merely an entertainer. Beck is to politics what Sharpton is to Reverenddom (I made that word up for effect btw). He's not elected to anything, not a news anchor, just an entertainer who "embellishes" his stories like any stand-up comedian or other entertainer does. I just don't see this as any kind of serious story. For what it's worth, I love listening to Beck. I watch him for purposes of entertainment. Sometimes he makes sense, sometimes not so much. But it's always fun to watch.

I can't speak for the them. They are huddled within their masses and their eyes do not seek that with which they may disagree. But seriously, would the statement have had any different effect if he would have said something like "I GAZED upon..........." or "Tears welled up in my eyes when I realized I was in the same room as..............." etc. etc.? Those statements would have been different. They were true. Dude cries at the drop of a hat(or the camera light coming on).

Quite a thread you two have going on here. I do kinda have to agree with TTC that at this point Beck does seem like more of an entertainer than a political mind. He's found a mind set or way of thinking that appeals to a large group of people and sees more and more people jumping on board all of the time. However at the same time I can't count how many "right wing fox supporters" have told me they tend to avoid Beck bc he's becoming more and more over the top. If you look back at it, it kinda started a bit into Obama's administration when O'Reilley started to not be as harsh on Obama and a bit more respectful and him and Beck would clash or talk in circles together. I'm just not too sure about Beck myself, whether it be his politics, or his motive for his convictions I just dunno.

"Big" Ed was at a rally too, but it didn't look like many people were there.

 

I know nobody was inluenced by Oprah, and she doesn't have any "issues".

Beck is different and I believe Beck's fans are different than those of the others. I have zero problem saying that he's turned into a "leader" for his fans. While many of us are smart enough to see through his schtick he obviously has people that take what he says as gospel (pun fully intended). 100k people do not travel to DC in the heat of the summer to hear an "entertainer."
