2010 ICN Games Of The Week

Featured Replies

The fact is HIGHLANDS didn't want IC6 to do their home games last year. I don't believe ICN6 is doing any games at all this year.

Gametime can tell you better than I could, but look at their schedule this year-it is hard to get all that equipment to certain places and the Cecil is one of them.

As far as their broadcasts go-I think they (TBNK) do a nice job, but very much different a live broadcast vs. tape a few days later. Hard to watch a game where you know the outcome and play in advance. As for Fox-they usually do 1 No. Ky game per year-usuallly on a Thursday, and I believe that will be true again this year.

Highlands doesn't let any outside parties broadcast their home games live...period. (CBS Sports vs St. X is obviously much different)

We (nkysports.com) tried to do a few Highlands games last year but Dale wouldn't approve us for any of the home games. Something to do with their broadcast class possibly doing some of the games. (Which never happened, as far as I know)

We covered them against Beechwood, but that was it.

Nkysports.com will also be doing a live game of the week this year. I haven't received the schedule yet but when I do, I'll post. We'll be using the Ihigh.com server this year so the quality of the broadcast should be significantly better.

Pretty sure the Highlands / Ryle 2 of 2 is on Thurs night Fox Sports at Ryle.

That's right , according to Rick Broering.

Hurting the gate? please. $5 is hardly going to hurt most folks wallets' date=' especially when it comes to watching a superb high school football team like Highlands. I myself enjoy watching and then having the opportunity, at my leisure, to review the games at a later time. [b']It's frustrating when the majority of ICN games are with Kenton Co. teams. The schedule needs more balance between the counties. Out of the 22 teams slated for television this season, only 2 are from Campbell County. [/b] That's pathetic IMO.

I agree with your observation about the television coverage not hurting the gate. My friends at the TBNK have data that supports the position that the extra exposure from TV coverage dramatically increases long term gate receipts. The schedule of games listed is not the ICN (Insight) games. Insight has cutback their local staff. Don Weber, Northern Kentucky Magazine and most of their northern kentucky programming are gone. The games listed will be broadcast by the Telecommunications Board of Northern Kentucky. They provide public, educational and government access television for their participating members. TBNK members include Kenton County, Covington, Taylor Mill, Villa Hills, Ludlow, Bromley, Ft. Mitchell, Lakeside Park, Ft. Wright, Park Hills, Edgewood, Crestview Hills, Independence. Boone County is a member but has given official notice (and filed suit) to withdraw from the TBNK which will be effective next year. The TBNK covers events for their participating cities and counties. When the opportunity arises to pick up a great team like Highlands on the road at the venue of a participating city, the TBNK jumps at the chance to broadcast the game.

Note on the TBNK games this year. To actually see the games you will have to pick up a converter from the TBNK. (It is free.)

Maybe somebody on here can explain that??

As part of Insight's push to eventually make all channels digital they "upgraded" channels 21 and 22 to digital. Channels 15 and 16 (government access) remain analogue channels that do not require the converter. I do not believe making 21 and 22 digital channels was the TBNK's decision or choice.

Didn't ICN6 carry the HHS/CCH regular-season ending game at HHS in 06? Did Dale change his mind since then?

My friends from most of the NKY schools do think its funny to hear a HHS fan whine about coverage.

Last year we had one of the best teams in NKY history play and win a state championship as well as end up nationally ranked in the top 3 yet still seemed to be shunned by the local cable network ICN6. The Highlands Bluebirds were not featured in any of the games of the week. Does anyone have any info on this year's criteria for making the cut? Now that Highlands has seemingly come back down to earth this year' date=' maybe they'll start featuring them again. Let me guess, hmm, probably the Ryle game simply b/c the consensus is a potential defeat for the Birds.....[/quote']

Sniffle sniff. Sounds like you need a sad violin and a hankercheif. I don't think ICN6 is out to get highlands dude.

No more Don Weber? No countdown to kickoff? No post game show? I'm checking into rehab. Friday night's won't be the same. If this is true, NKY just lost a local icon IMO.

Yes NKy HS sports lost out again!

First it was losing The Kentucky Post, which truly covered the NKy High School sports scene like few local papers do/did.

Then NKy lost ICN6 Don Weber and company doing their pre game shows, their Friday night highlights and scores of the game and a weekly game of the week.

We in NKy have been hammer by being to big to have a small town one team paper or TV/Radio doing that one team that many small communities in some parts of Ky have but we are to little to have a big city newspaper and or TV/Radio stations doing our games like Louisville and Lexington!

Really a shame, that our communities have gone backward not forward!

I thought all Simon Kenton games were on 1160 am this year. That is opposite of what you just said theoldguy.

The bottom line is to do any of this costs money. None of these radio stations, newspapers or cable outlets are doing anything for "community service". That whole idea is passe, except for in school, where you visit a nursing home to do community service. The media outlets are in it for the money, and without advertising support, the games won't be carried. I am not crying about it, but I believe folks will miss it when it is gone. Just a few left, and my bet is the SK expirement won't work as it hasn't proven to in the psat. We shall see.

There is always internet.

I understand the Ky Post, but from my knowledge the Local Cable franchise was given to one company years and years ago (to allow a monopoly) because they sold the local communities on how they would be community minded and bring us their customers, local programming!

BTW I have helped out from time to time on the CovCath Internet Radio Broadcast and I wish more NKy HS would follow Bishop Brossart and CovCath lead. Oh and CovCath games have over the years been on 1160 radio or some such station thanks to some of our local business owned by some of our past grads.

Good luck to SK this season!

Don Weber and NKY high school football is analogous to Harry and the Cubs! He'll be missed......

The 2006 HHS/CCH regular season game at Highlands was carried by Insight. A classic.

Another Insight classic was the Beechwood at Cov. Cath '07 game under the (portable) lights. The portable light stansions were not nearly as high as most of the punts which passed into complete darkness until they fell under about 15 feet or so.

I remember this game. HHS/CCH. I can't remember watching a better football game. At an level.
