July 24, 201016 yr Given these events in her life: One night in 1965, "her father, Hosie Miller, a black man and a deacon at Thankful Baptist Church [in rural Georgia], was shot to death by a white farmer in what ostensibly was a dispute over a few cows," reports CNN. "The all-white grand jury didn't bring charges against the shooter." The then Shirley Miller was 17 at the time. "That summer, when she and several other blacks went to the county courthouse to register to vote, the county sheriff blocked the door and even pushed her husband-to-be, Lester Sherrod, down the stairs," CNN continues. "Activists used that incident to get a restraining order against the sheriff so blacks could register to vote, she said." (from aol news) I would think she has every right to be a little rough around the edges and cynical of the motives of some. As to the White House's involvement in all of this - it could not have happened at a worse time. It overshadowed the signed of the finreg bill and the UE Insurance extension bill, both of which would have been great press for the white house. Pres. O even went to the podium on Friday afternoon to tout the accomplishments to try to get the news cycle back. It certainly was not planned.
July 24, 201016 yr Nothing, but I wasn't aware you were the thread tour guide. Personally, I'm not that concerned about Sherrod's remarks, and I haven't paid attention to them. She was the subject of a smear, and she's responding ... more power to her. Frankly, given her life experiences, I don't feel I'm qualified to comment on how she views race relations. Then, frankly, nobody has the same life experiences, and nobody could comment on anyone's views.
July 24, 201016 yr So, which is it ... is the White House a crew of total idiots or is it the master media manipulator? I don't think you can have it both ways. True. At least we agree. They are incompetent or corrupt. Neither is good for the American people.
July 24, 201016 yr True. At least we agree. They are incompetent or corrupt. Neither is good for the American people. No, we don't agree. But in your haste to demonize the White House, you can't have it both ways.
July 24, 201016 yr Why even come into these threads and post at all? :idunno:It is possible to discuss politics without harshly judging someone or question their motives simply because you don't like their positions or their beliefs ... it really is.
July 24, 201016 yr Author It is possible to discuss politics without harshly judging someone or question their motives simply because you don't like their positions or their beliefs ... it really is.Yeah, but this thread is specifically asking questions, so other than taking pot shots do you have any answers or thoughts pertaining to the questions?
July 24, 201016 yr It is possible to discuss politics without harshly judging someone or question their motives simply because you don't like their positions or their beliefs ... it really is. Really? Prove it. I want a link, and I want it now.

Since it happened in 1965 and a lot has changed since then, I thought she had overcome those things. 35 years later she sounds a little more than just angry about Breitbart and her rant on Fox News and some of what she said about Breitbart sounds a bit racial, not just rough around the edges.
July 25, 201016 yr Author Really? Prove it. I want a link, and I want it now. It's usually you lefties screaming for that. Getting back to the thread, any views you'd like to share about Sherrod, mcpapa?

WOW, do you even know what empathy is?

Typical rep/con response. Lets blame the victim. You know, she was a victim this week and if she is angry about how she was treated and wants to vent - give her some room to do so. Breitbart is at the very least a race baiter as is Fox and Rush. You may not want to see it or admit, but that does not make it so.

Agree with you on this on Ace, but the problem is she will get RICH off of this, and then she'll no longer be a victim to me. When you are compensated for being wronged, then what will she have lost??? Her job, but she will have more money than she knows what to do with.

That doesn't make it okay, and not everybody is like Ms. Palin. She may not make a lot of money. And if she does, it still does not change the way she was treated. What would be awesome would be if she extended a hand of mercy and forgiveness to those who harmed her, but that is not something that I think I could do.
July 25, 201016 yr Yeah, but this thread is specifically asking questions, so other than taking pot shots do you have any answers or thoughts pertaining to the questions?Already answered ...
July 25, 201016 yr Author WOW, do you even know what empathy is?It was 45 years ago (typo in my original post) and she claimed she'd overcome her bigotry herself. Listening to her remarks it sounds like she's still struggling with race. Typical rep/con response. Lets blame the victim. You know, she was a victim this week and if she is angry about how she was treated and wants to vent - give her some room to do so. Breitbart is at the very least a race baiter as is Fox and Rush. You may not want to see it or admit, but that does not make it so.Typical liberal/dem response, ignore the same behavior from the victim simply because they were the victim. Yes, I realize she was the victim, ace. I agree she has every right to be angry and to vent, I fully expect that. I don't expect her to do race baiting of her own or to make a rush to judgment like she's been doing. No ace, I don't agree that Fox News is guilty of race baiting. Breitbart, I'll give you. Limbaugh, I couldn't care less about. What about the race baiting that's been going on for years from the left? Any reason you don't jump on them for it? It's been there for a long time and likewise, you may not want to see it or admit, but that does not mean it isn't so.
