Competitive cheerleading is not an official sport that colleges can use to meet gender-equity requirements, a federal judge ruled Wednesday in ordering a Connecticut school to keep its women’s volleyball team.

While there is no doubt that cheerleading involves athleticism and skill, I believe the ruling to be correct.

My daughter cheered. They had tryouts, camps, off-season training, and were required to maintain grades like all other sport to participate. I would consider it a sport.

I guess you do not consider gymnastics or diving sports?

 

What about boxing or mma if no one is knocked out? Then the winner is judged,............just like cheerleading.

And I've seen dominoes, paintball, and cup-stacking as well.

 

Let's remember, however, that ESPN stands for (I think) Entertainment and Sports Programming Network.
