I wouldn't want to get rid of Bruce for Hart. Besides this year I feel like Hart's always been a comparable player to Jay. Who knows what the future holds for either one of them but like someone said before I wouldn't risk screwing up the chemistry on the squad.

And more importantly Bruce is just what 22 years old?? Or something close to that.

Good God! Just give the Reds the pennent if they can somehow sign him and send Bruce to the Brew Crew!

No thanks.

No thanks.

And why not?

I'm smelling Brewers maybe and Corey Hart...........

With the current roster the Reds don't need another right handed bat, more likely a lefty. Adam Dunn is available. Would the Reds consider readding Dunn to their lineup? With a .282 avg he does appear to be staying away from the down and away pitches that use to be so appealing to him. He'd look awful good in between Votto and Gomes if Dusty could find some way to get the 4 outfielders enough ABs to suit everybody.

Who plays right field if the above happens?

And trade away a 23 year old left handed bat with 1100 major league ABs. I don't know about everybody else but I am not ready to give up on this kid.

28 years old versus 23 ???

Platoon Jonny Gomes and Bruce righty vs lefty and Bruce can also play center to get Stubbs out of there versus tough righties.

Have fun watching Gomes attempt to play RF. He has enough trouble with LF.

Just throwing it out there. I didn't say it was the perfect scenario. To get Dunn they would have to give up something and I'd hate for it to be Stubbs or Bruce.

If only the White Sox tanked and the Reds could have traded for Putz. Sherrill from the Dodgers could be traded as well. I would think the Reds rather have a righty though since we already have Rhodes and Bray (also Chapman who could come up in September). I honestly don't think we need outfield help more than a shutdown reliever. We have so many pitchers that would need to be shuffled around though. Did they finally send Smith back down? There are so many moving parts to the bullpen especially if/when Bailey and Harang comes back. Ondusek could be sent back down even though he has been pitching excellent. Owings would likely have to go somewhere. They've had enough time, tradeline is approaching and the day of reckoning is here. So if they trade for a good reliever, Masset has to be one of the ones considered to be cut.

I think they released him. I don't disagree and do feel like their number one need is bullpen, but also think their offense was exposed a little vs. the Phillies. Outside of Rolen and Rhodes, Bruce is my favorite, but he may not be ready for prime time. I think the Reds have done a great job in stockpiling young arms, and now may be able to package one with a vet like Harang and get a thumper in the outfield.
