Brudawg,

Just for sake of curiosity, I hear LCC is making waves in class A. Do you think they will eventually fall into this category?

A student is eligible at the school located in the OHIO school district where the parent or legal guardian resides when all other eligibility standards are met. If your parent/legal guardian lives outside of Ohio, you are not eligible unless you meet one of the exceptions to the residency bylaws. When there has been change of custody, the student must reside in the same school district with the legal guardian.

So it would seem that, in general, to play in Ohio you must live in Ohio.

People are not saying that Trinity "recruits" just to make an excuse why they are better than other teams. Because they are a WHOLE lot better then the mojority of the teams in the state.....for many reasons, one being the recruitment issue. When Male won state 2 years ago, I don't remember people complaining, or making excuses why they won. Male just had a better team, and had no advantages over Trinity except for the fact that they were better. I dont know, in a way, i guess it is an excuse, but face it, Trinity has an unfair advantage over ALL public schools(as does X), and something should be done about it.

Why should something be done about it? Is this one of those, "I want my trophy or I'm leaving" comments? I mean this is not an issue amongst people when basketball season comes around, it has always struck me that people just don't like the idea of Trinity having a better team. If you haven't learned this yet then you will now. Life is not fair, not every team has the same abilities and to eliminate every advantage ANY school has is just wrong. I guess we need to do something about Ballard's ability in basketball, because they have just been so much better than Trinity in the last few years. Is that right? No. Does that sound right? No, but that is the gist of what you stated above.

Yes Trinity has an advantage because of the idea of recruiting, but Trinity must recruit to survive. I would have no problem if public schools started recruiting, since there is open enrollment in this city it shouldn't make much of a difference.

Ok then, what can public school's do? Give scholarships to an already free school? Sounds like a great idea!

By using the phrase "one of the exceptions" it seems that, in general, to play in Ohio you must meet one of the multiple exceptions.

I am just say Trinity and St.X because thats who this topic is about, and also pretty much the only non-public schools in jefferson county.

What about?

1. DeSales

2. Holy Cross

3. Kentucky Country Day

4. Christain Academy of Louisville

...you have been on a FULL SCHOLARSHIP at my expense as a taxpayer ever since you entered public school. Those who attend St. X. , who do qualify for financial assistance, still MUST pay some tuition, plus participate in a work study program similar to those required in college. NO ONE gets a full ride like you are getting. This is therefore NOT a private school advantage, but a private school disadvantage. Financially, you are on EASY STREET, but sadly you are incapable of appreciating it. :burger:

You seem to advocate a position that if someone recieves finincial aid he/she should not play sports. Since the aid at Trinity, X, etc. is need based would you extend this to kids at public schools that are on free or reduced lunch programs? That is also a need based program.

I simply do not understand how you cannot see that this puts the public schools at a great disadvantage, along with the fact that you are able to recruit students to your schools by offering them money. Again, I say if you stop offering scholarships, I will stop pushing for there to be separate divisions for the public and private schools.

It all boils down to what is more important to your institutions. Is more important to offer scholarships or not? If you chose scholarships, then in my opinion, you should have your own classification. To those who bring up the arguement about the public schools being free, you are so off base with that argument, it is not even worth a comment. You can't complain if you pay taxes and choose to send your child to a private school.

Those of you for Trinity who say that you do not complain about the size of St. X, how could you? You are doing the same thing when it comes to offering scholarships and recruiting. It just seems that they are a little better at it than you. :D

1. Irregardless of where one attends school, the fact that we pay taxes gives us the right to complain.

2. I thought the advantage in numbers was the point of this thread? Now, after I've shown how St. X has a greater advantage on Trinity than the Rocks do on:

North Hardin: 722

Scott County: 720

Butler: 694

Male: 681

Daviess County: 652

Henry Clay: 624

Eastern: 612

Henderson County: 611

Ballard: 594

Seneca: 589

Lafayette: 531

Manual: 515

Tates Creek: 506

PRP: 437

Paul Dunbar: 305

the argument shifts to recruiting and scholarships.

I'm ready to leave the KHSAA!

This thread is now being closed due to the fact that several members have violated rule #6 which is as follows:

6. No school-specific recruiting comments or allegations of KHSAA rules violations by any school, coach, or player are allowed. No talking about where any player lives, has lived, or where they are from in a recruiting context. This is not the place to report KHSAA violations. Feel free to contact khsaa.org to report such violations, but do not discuss violations here.
