MLB Trade Deadline Countdown & Updates

Rumor has it that the Cardinals are now the front runners for Roy Oswalt, and Roy would be willing to reconstruct the final year of his contract to be in a Cardinal uniform. Wow, if this happens and it's Wainwright, Carpenter, Oswalt, Garcia...Eww

Apparently Roy has demanded that, in order for him to waive his no-trade clause, the team must pick up his $16 M option for '12. I can't see the Cardinals doing that, nor can I see the Astros trading Oswalt within their own division. In '12, the Cards will be re-signing Pujols, right?

I think Haren to the Cards is much more likely.

^ Who are the giving up for him?

I just heard that they are the front runners if he goes, which there is still a strong possibility that he will remain a Stro.

If I had to guess though, I would say that Ryan Ludick would be involved due to what the Cardinals would be taking on finically. Shelby Miller (Cards top pitching prospect) is another I'd think have to be a part of the deal, but if Mo can pull it off with out him then I don't see why the Cardinals wouldn't do it.

Agree, and I think it will be Haren. I was shocked to see that Cardinals were still interested. But Dewitt has said he would take on more salary rather then rent a player.

If the trade involves Shelby Miller then I wouldn't like it. If they can get by with out him being a part, then I think the Cardinals would do it.

As long as the Phillies and Mets don't get him I don't care where he goes.

When the Braves traded for Alex Gonzalez then also tried to deal for Jose Bautista.

Braves had two special assistants at the Marlins game the other night, more than likely scouting Cody Ross.

Arizona sent Dan Haren to the LA Angels today. That is one less pitcher off the market for St. Louis. Will they now persue Roy Oswalt?

Do the Cardinals have enough in the farm system to land Oswalt?

I don't think the Cards are going to be willing to take on that kind of salary for the future. They are going to be spending a lot of money on Fat Albert.

Cards will be able to jump to 105 or 110 million in salary by 2011, so I wouldn't say that salary will be the issue. Plus Oswalt wants to pitch in St. Louis and has said he would reconstruct his contract in the right city. I say the longer Oswalt is on the market, the better shot the Cards have of landing him.

They gave up a lot to get Holliday and their system is a little thin. It appears that Oswalt could be headed to Philly with Happ being the main piece from Philly.

It sounds like Oswalt is either going to St. Louis or staying put.

He's staying put then. St. Louis doesn't have the money or the prospects to acquire Oswalt. He'll only approve a trade if his 16million option for 2012 is picked up.

Really? Says who they don't have money or prospects?
