June 10, 201016 yr Serious question. No disrespect intended toward anyone, but I feel I have to ask it. Over the last several months, and most recently the last couple days, I’ve been admonished by a few of you for the number of threads I start about Obama. I understand some of you really, really like the guy, that’s fine. I understand some of you may hold me in contempt, that’s fine. What I don’t understand is why it matters to anyone how many negative threads I start about Obama in P&R. Do you folks understand that the P in P&R stands for politics? Obama is a politician, not only a politician but the top-dog of politics currently. As all of you know, I don’t like the guy’s policies or the way conducts himself in the media. I think its fine that you guys do, I can respect that. I don’t mind a differing point of view from mine, I may argue with you, but that’s what a political forum is for. What I just can’t, for the life of me, understand is why it matters to any of you how many threads I do or don’t start. Whether I start 1 or 1 million, why does it bother you so much? Do I chide any of you for threads you start that I don’t like? No. Is there a rule on BGP that states I can only start x number of threads about any one person? No. I really just don’t get it. If you don’t like negative threads about Obama, why read them? You obviously take it too personal when it’s not intended to be personal in the first place. If I’m someone that you dislike, why read any of my posts? Again, I don’t get it. Obama is a politician, he’s free game. He’s not off limits and I’ll be darned if I’m going to treat him like he is. I have issues with his politics, seems P&R would be the place to discuss it with others. I don’t need people to agree with me, but I certainly don’t need to be told what I should or shouldn’t post either, so long as it’s within BGP rules. Edited June 11, 201016 yr by Birdsfan
June 10, 201016 yr For the record, not only do I not care I haven't even noticed. P&R has suffered over the last year or so due to a lack of quality discussions. I'm all for you raising points/questions. Its what we need in order to learn. And I always love a good verbal tug of war. My only complaint is that folks on both sides show a lack of respect to the office by not referring to the officeholder by his title of "President." Yes, that's picky but I've never liked the "Bush...." or "Obama...." Keep 'em coming.

I can see that, I don't call Obama by his last name a sign of disrespect, I always referred to Bush by his last name as well. I know you aren't one of those that complain about my threads.
June 10, 201016 yr RTS, I'll give it a shot. I don't think I've harassed anyone for starting a negative thread, but I rarely participate in the P&R forum because many of the posts (and threads) are too predictable. Generally speaking, a poster from one side of the political spectrum will create a thread with a link or some type of biased article, video, etc. Another poster from the opposite end of the political spectrum will rebut it and discredit the poster & the post, video, link, whatever it is. It is just tiresome to read and a lot of it, to be frank, is childish banter back and forth. To make things worse, people use hyperbole and other exaggerations to get their point across and the discussion quickly loses its substance. I appreciate the quality discussions back and forth which contain well thought out ideas. This isn't directed to RTS, but it seems those threads & posts have become sparse. Just my two cents.

I don't disagree, however, I don't think I'd complain about how many threads they start, I'd just not post in them if it was bugging me. Some are just taking it way too personal.

June 10, 201016 yr RTS, you know that you are my friend and I respect you. I understand that you are passionate about your beliefs and you have every right to be. I have always enjoyed reading your posts. You know that I enjoy political discussions with those that are open-minded. It's not the amount of threads that are started that concerns me. It's the "reaching" to certain lengths that you sometimes go to for your material. We have to choose our battles wisely. If not, we become like the little boy that cried wolf and no one listens to us. Regardless, you are still my friend. ("Awwwwwwww.....")
June 10, 201016 yr We do have to keep in mind that moderators do have to read our threads, regardless of how many we post of if they agree with our opinions or not.
June 10, 201016 yr It just gets really tiresome correcting your wrong opinions in so many threads Seriously, start as many threads as you'd like I just don't think you should be suprised when people point out that often times the topics of the threads seem very shallow and petty, just my opinion of course.
June 10, 201016 yr RTS - I know you and I disagree on certain topics I respect your opinions, I don't always agree with them. 1. Can someone tell me the number of threads that were started with the title "Bush" over his 8 years. 2. Then compare them to the number of threads that are titled "Obama" over his short time. It just amazes me how much negativity this one man gets. (Some deserved) I think the citizens of America need to realize no matter what party you are with, we have people that are not in it for what is best for Americans. We also have to agree that the economic situation that this President was handed was a mess. I don't know who to Blame. Some will say Bush, others will say Clinton. There are a couple of things our current President needs to focus on and try to fix. 1. End the War. 2. Fix the economy. I think If we can take care of number one first it will save Billions is spending. 3. The oil Spill. - I ask all Americans to boycott BP. To your thread Please continue to start your threads. Just remember your party is just as much responsible for this mess as my party is.
June 10, 201016 yr You have the right to start as many Obama bashing threads as you see fit. You shouldn't however, be surprised, offended, etc., when others criticize the legitimacy of those threads when if Bush or another ® would have done the same thing, you would brush it off as trivial or "no big deal".
June 10, 201016 yr I think the one thing everyone that has posted in the P&R forum can agree one is they are tired of business as usual and that Washington is broken. Yet both sides use "business as usual" to defend their guy. Or "both sides do it". THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT. Call a spade a spade. It drives me nuts. Wrong is Wrong. The fact is Obama is the man now, not Bush, not Clinton, not anyone else...OBAMA. I don't give a rat's butt what anyone else did, I only care what Obama is doing. If it was wrong when Clinton did then it was wrong if Bush did it. If it was wrong when Bush did it then by god it's wrong if Obama does it. I just wish everyone would quite making excuses for their guy because they have the same letter by their name.

I agree with both of these posts (except the friend part, but just because we don't know each other). I had not really noticed an overabundance of Obama bashing threads by you, although I expect you to work in a negative comment about Obama in your posts. But I truly am a moderate who votes for both party's candidates regularly so I enjoy hearing everyone's opinion. And I think you do a good job of stating your view point. I do think you stretch it and the recent thread about finger pointing is a good example of that IMO. As to the number of threads, as TBAS says above, I think that only hurts you because you do start to look like the boy who cried wolf. Anyone who is not on the tea party/right wing bandwagon will begin to recognize your strong bias and discredit your opinion because of it. Total partisanship and being closed minded don't do anyone any good. That is a big part of the problem in our government today.
