You can't say Cov Cath didn't play small ball because they did. They played it pretty well aside from the last inning, Boone just played it better. The bunt for a hit in the bottom of the 6th I believe it was, was absolutely perfect. You can't place it any better than that. This was a very very good game, the momentum seemed to switch about every inning or two.

 

Congrats to Ronald Cotton on his grand slam. Not only was it a huge point in the game, but just an exciting regional moment for the senior.

Cotton is the best player up here. The pics in #10 are awesome with Cotton jumping into home. Congrats Rebels!

When was the last time Covcath didn't make it to the region championship? I seem to remembe reading something the other day stating that a 35th district team had made it to the region championship the past 9 or 10 years?

This is the second year in a row that a team playing Cov Cath has used their small ball against them more effectively. Coach Krumps has showed everyone how to win with small ball and they are finally using it more. Beechwood had back-to-back bunts last year that Cov Cath didn't handle for their winning runs. The bottom of 6 last night Boone had perfect bunt, infield high chopper for a hit and another perfect bunt to get bases loaded and no outs. Ground out by Teegarden for run and sac fly by Laumann for another run. Cov Cath gets lead off walk and rbi double and eventually has 1st and 3rd no outs. They tried squeeze on first two batters but both were fouled off. I cannot believe I watched 3 straight batters take a called third strike in this situation. Great game to watch and good luck to Boone in the finals.

I was fortunate enough to be at the game and it was a great one to watch. Congrats to the Boone coaches on a job well done. Cotton is a gifted player.

I got home at at around 1am and posted my congrats to Boone and I will be leaving in a couple of minutes to watch a game in Dayton, Ohio (U-16 Ky Colonels) and at the moment I am going over my stats of the game so when I get back, I will post.

Funny but at a gathering of parents and friends last night after the game, I received so many thank you's from the current senior parents for my time spent with them this season, that I am very upset by the season being all over, not because CovCath lost but because I won't be seeing and spending the time with these outstanding young men like I have for the last five months and three years.

 

Seniors of the Class of 2010, thank you for allowing me along for the ride, it has been fun.

Correct, lost 2-1 at Moscher (sp) field to Sam Diehl in round one as the semi's and finals were at Florence Freedom, but not the opening round.

In retrospect the Colonels had a strong season. I do think inexperience got to them a bit yesterday. In addition, ol' "100 pitch" just wasn't the same pitcher at the end of the season as he was in the middle. No question in my mind that arm fatigue was a factor.

 

The dramatic improvement of Brady Reese was a joy to watch. I have no clue where his pop came from but its there. He'll be fun to watch the next two years.

 

I think the player that gives CCH a chance to get back to winning the 9th is Tom Arnzen who was unable to really show his ability at the varsity level due to a knee injury. Add him to a strong 2012 class and they will compete for the crown.

 

Seniors had a strong showing this year.

Boone County8 Covington Catholic 7

The Good: Matt Klein knocked in two rbi’s and had a triple but he also threw out or picked off two runners and tagged a runner out at the plate.

 

All this pales in comparisons to what this young man has gone through during his junior year at CovCath. Matt was a starter in his sophomore year at CovCath and batted .387. As a pitcher he was 5-0 and the future looked brilliant for him but like life does at times, life threw Matt a curve that he had a hard time beating but with the help of his sister Meagan, prayer and love, he pulled through. In his Junior year at the very first scrimmage, he hit a rocket up the middle and I thought great Matt is back but then when I saw him struggle to first base, I knew it was going to take a while.

 

What this young man has struggled back from makes my belief in God even stronger as Matt is nearly the Matt I watched as a sophomore. How great it was to see him play with a smile on his face again.

 

Brett Stayton: 2 hit’s and 2 rbi’s. Last year in the Regional Finals Brett struck out and I know the memory of it haunted him through out the rest of the year. Then while playing a game against Simon Kenton Brett tripped over first base and he along with everybody else thought his season was over. Well luckily for him and the team, the doctor said he could play and Brett took full advantage of the second chance as he was more times than not the man who knocked in the runs, in his second chance back.

 

Brady Reese: The season for Brady didn’t start out for Brady as he wished. He was suspended for the first three games and he honestly didn’t see much playing time but to his credit when the time came that Krumps got him into the games, the young man produced. In this game he went double, double and Home Run (1^st) and he knocked in 2 rbi’s.

 

The Bad and Ugly: Sure CovCath didn’t win this game and there were some ugly moments in the game but when you realize what this team accomplished this season, well there was no bad, nor ugly. Who at the start of this season with the loss of seven seniors starters, the entire starting pitching staff and 99.9% of the rbi’s and slugging gone, would have thought this team was just one or two hits away from reaching the Ninth Region Championship game?

 

CovCath returned their starting second baseman and right fielder and that was it. Most of the players who started this season had very little or no experience playing varsity baseball and while maybe they weren’t experienced HS varsity players, as their record proved, they were outstanding baseball players and teammates to each other.

 

Pee Wee's Place Offensive play of the game: CovCath top of the 5^th and the score is 6-4 Boone County. Martin walks on a full count and then on a 0-1 count, Brady Reese hits a no doubter HR to tie the game. Reese who most teams play to bunt has hit the top of the walk at CovCath near the 380 sign twice this season but this was his first high school HR.

BAWAC Inc. Defensive play of the game: With a runner on third Alford lays down a bunt but Hellman bare hands the ball and throws the ball to Klein who puts the tag on Carzoli at the plate.

Anyone that has anything bad to say to TOG obviously does not know him. You do not need to agree with his thoughts, but I can assure you that he is a great person with a passion for baseball.

TOG..I apologize for my post as I see it has upset you. All I was saying was what we have seen all year. If Cov Cath wins you post your recap right away. If they lose it usually comes a day later. I was just stating that and I apologize as it was obviously taken wrong.
