June 3, 201016 yr Because they tried to get him to play for them and would have taken him if he had chosen their teams. It's not like they dropped him when they found out about his situation. My point is all kinds of people had their hands in the cookie jar, maybe they all should not get the same penalty but something could be done to all. It's possible once he committed to the other schools their compliance officers would have done a more thorough search than UK's did and might have not played him.
June 3, 201016 yr So basically there should be no recourse for a student athlete that falsifies documents and lies to the NCAA clearinghouse? If the NCAA clearinghouse rules a player eligible, they should NEVER punish a school for taking and playing that kid! If the NCAA then somehow finds out that the student athlete somehow cheated to get cleared and they didn't find out, the first two times, then punish the kid, not the school that went on the findings the first two times around from the clearinghouse! But that kid is no longer in school, he has moved on, so now what? No matter what the findings, they should not go back and punish the school! The NCAA is a JOKE! As in the Memphis case, the NCAA doesn't have the guts to admit they were wrong, and that the clearinghouse is flawed! The NCAA makes a huhe amount of money off of these kids, they could dig a little deeper and come up with a much better system, and do better work on their investigations on players before they enroll at a school.

Agree completely! They charge kids and I assume schools have to pay to actually be a "member" of the NCAA for this "clearinghouse" to be able to malfunction without any consequences except against member schools. Flawed to say the least.
June 3, 201016 yr It's possible once he committed to the other schools their compliance officers would have done a more thorough search than UK's did and might have not played him. I couldn't imagine that any one of the teams recruiting him would have done that after the NCAA ruled him eligible.
June 3, 201016 yr I couldn't imagine that any one of the teams recruiting him would have done that after the NCAA ruled him eligible. Are you seriously arguing that if UK receives punishment then any team that recruited Bledsoe should also receive punishment?
June 3, 201016 yr Are you seriously arguing that if UK receives punishment then any team that recruited Bledsoe should also receive punishment? Maybe it's that I don't think that UK is the only team that is guilty in this. Maybe they should get the blunt of the blame, no doubt, but other teams had their hands out too. I don't seriously expect that anyone else could or will get in trouble.

This has been mentioned but it bears repeating, the NCAA is a non profit group, and doesn't make tons of money. The individual schools make tons of money on these kids, not the NCAA. All money that goes to the NCAA like for NCAA tourney contracts are divided among member schools and conferences.

If they are not making enough, then the NCAA must demand more of a cut so they can fix this problem with the clearinghouse, including hiring more investigators.

After they pay expenses for their offices and employees all the money left is distributed. You can laugh all you want, but people here are only upset because it's UK in trouble. Face the facts these are the rules and they didn't bother you guys until UK is the one that got caught. Now the NCAA is all the sudden this awful institution.

The only reason you are so adamant is "because it's UK in trouble." The NCAA and its dealings have been a joke a long time before this occurred. It may pain you to believe other people outside of Kentucky feel this way, but it is the truth.

No I mean I honestly see the NCAA point here, if someone will present a valid way to keep this in check without punishing the schools I would be all for it. But if you go with the notion UK fans here want you would just encourage lying and dishonesty with the clearinghouse. Although I do love watching UK fans squirm.

I'm pretty sure most people thought Memphis got the shaft too. Other than that, I'm not aware of the NCAA stripping wins based on something like this. They sure didn't do it with Arthur at Kansas. As for the not for profit part.... Revenue - $353,186,578 Expenses (including distributions) - $310,724,613 What about the other $42 million? Not to mention the over half a billion dollars in investments. And who cares if the organization itself profits when its employees are making such healthy salaries.
June 3, 201016 yr No I mean I honestly see the NCAA point here, if someone will present a valid way to keep this in check without punishing the schools I would be all for it. Well... they could just do their job up front. Seems a multi-million dollar organization could pull that off. Nobody is saying schools should get away with it if the school itself is involved. They just shouldn't be punished for not knowing something that the NCAA didn't discover either. Honestly, I don't particularly care what a kid's grades are in high school (not saying its OK to falsify them though). They have to maintain grades in college to stay eligible. If they manage to do that, surely they could pass high school classes. If they're passing them in college with illegal help, then the school is involved, and I'm all for punishing them severely.
