I don't think anyone can dispute that #1 is NOT a valid reason, especially when you're throwing a guy out there who hasn't pitched more than 2 innings all year. #2 is reasonable, but the bullpen is already well rested. You don't have to put Masset, Rhodes or Cordero in there. Fisher or Herrerra (likely) could have done the job just fine, although the little guy already failed once in a similar situation. Dusty also said Lincoln had only thrown 17 or 18 pitches (it was actually 19) in his two innings so he should have been fresh still. Dusty added that Lincoln got in trouble so fast (4 hits off 8 or 9 pitches) that they couldn't get anyone else ready quick enough. And ... Dusty admitted they blew that one. Hey, everyone makes mistakes. The Reds' players made a boatload of them in that game. The only big mistake Dusty made in my mind was not having someone up throwing when Lincoln started the ninth to be prepared if things didn't go well. Then he could have yanked Lincoln after one or two hits and keep things under control hopefully. But Rhodes was the only pitcher in that inning who did his job so even when Dusty brought in his horses it didn't work well. Overall, I think Dusty is doing a good job and that game is history now. Take at least 2 of 3 in Cleveland and it is definitely in the past and behind the team.

It wasn't a save opportunity, the reds were up by six runs. I don't think it was a bad idea leaving him in though. Who would have thought they would get shelled for seven. I do think they should have left Rhodes in the game though. He has been money this year and Coco has been shakey. Another point that I question though, is wasn't the guy do up a switch hitter? So matchup wise it wouldnt have really mattered who DB would have allowed to pitch. I'll be steaming a little over this game for a while. It sure would be a shame if they missed the playoffs by one game in the fall.
May 22, 201016 yr I have said it before and I will say it again. C'mon Reds, lets sign Jonny Gomes to a multi year contract before he deceides to go somewhere else for big money. (Jorge Cantu) Gomes deserves better than to leave him hanging after ever season. He is the heart and soul of the Reds. I agree, Gomes has been a key player and I love the way he plays.

May 23, 201016 yr Cordero doing his best to blow another game. The Reds take a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the 9th, and Cordero has loaded the bases with only 1 out. :irked:

May 23, 201016 yr I honesty can't remember a single instance when Cordero has pitched well when brought into a game in a non-save/ significant lead situation. It is getting to the point when he doesn't pitch overly well in any situation.
