Jamarcus Russell Released

Featured Replies

And while I do not believe Couch was ever going to be any better than he ever was, his career was cut short because of injuries. What happened to Russell is unprecedented.

Guilty of two (at least) of the seven deadly sins, from what I have read. Gluttony and sloth.

Tim Couch

He actually took his team to the playoffs.

What a shame, from everything I have read it was all based on his laziness. There are thousands of young men who work really hard at the game and who will never come close to the NFL. Here is one who had the world at his fingertips......and he ate it!

With a lot of help from "backup" QB Kelly Holcomb. :thumb:

Actually Couch led them to the playoffs. Holcomb finished off in the final game and the playoff game as Couch was injured. Then the injuries and the QB carousel started. After that, the Browns had 4 different QBs go on the IR (Couch, Holcomb, Garcia and one other that the name escapes me). Their offensive line was horrible.

Russell has been a stunning failure, and apparently not because of physical ability.

Couch led them to the playoffs. Holcomb won the playoff game. If I remember, Couch got hurt the final game of the season. William Green became a force for a few games that season to put the Browns in contention. None-the-less, Couch never lived up to his #1 pick potential.

When you draft a QB because of his size and he can throw the ball hard first overall you have to expect he can't step in right away. Russell can throw the ball a mile but if your not accurate it means nothing.

I do commend the Raiders for cutting bait with Russell. It was a stupid decision in drafting him, but we often see teams stick with a guy and waste even more seasons than they already have. Remember, he has only been suited up for two full seasons. He held out a good chunk of his first year.

Agree wholeheartedly.

Holcomb played the first two games or so too didn't he?

I was a big Kelly Holcomb fan in 02 but the facts still stands that Couch won 8 games and Kelly 1 that year.

Kelly started the first two games and also the playoff game against Pittsburgh. He also came in several times throughout the season when Couch got hurt. He finshed off the W against ATL in the final game.

Injuries derailed the offensive line (and the rest of the team) after the 02 season. That 02 line actually gelled fairly well (and until the 07 team was the best line the browns had since their return), especially towards the end of the year. Willie Green ran for over 700 yards the last 7 games of the year.
