May 3, 201016 yr Wish they would've spot shadowed Ice Box's whole trip. Looked like they wanted to, but the video didn't work. If you watch his placements (19th throughout until 15th at the 1/4 pole, I think) and the circuitous route he had to take to get to the outside before he could fire, ya' gotta believe a better trip gets him to the winner's circle. Should be interesting to see if Eskenderya (sp?) runs if healthy in the Preakness. I'm sure Pletcher would like a shot at #2 of 3 w/o him in there, but not his call.

Same could be said for the favorite. Horrible trip.
May 3, 201016 yr Mine that Bird????? And can anyone say that Supersaver stood out among these horses? Borel has been the difference in the past two derby's. He's one of the best, when riding at Churchill anyways. He doesn't take a backseat to anyone in the Derby. Didn't Super Saver go off as the favorite or co-favorite on Saturday??
May 3, 201016 yr Didn't Super Saver go off as the favorite or co-favorite on Saturday?? I think it actually was the second favorite behind Lookin' At Lucky.
May 3, 201016 yr I think it actually was the second favorite behind Lookin' At Lucky. Correct, they were both 7-1 during the post parade, and then Lucky ticked down to 6-1 as they neared the starting gate. My point was that I think many people liked Super Saver, don't you?

May 3, 201016 yr No doubt. A lot had to do with who the jockey was. Borel is definitely now the subject of what used to be known as the "Pat Day Effect."
May 3, 201016 yr Didn't Super Saver go off as the favorite or co-favorite on Saturday?? But did he stand out? Don't get me wrong, I liked the horse, it's just that there were several that you could throw a dart at and make a good case for or against.
May 3, 201016 yr Borel is definitely now the subject of what used to be known as the "Pat Day Effect." In KY anyway.
May 3, 201016 yr I am not sure if Ice Box would have been the winner with a better trip or Paddy O' Prado. All I know as a horse racing fan that Super Saver would not have won the race had either of these horses not been bothered at the top of the stretch. Lezcano had to stand up in the saddle at the 1/4 pole on Ice Box and Desormeaux had the rear end knocked out of his horse at the top of the stretch just as he was making a big run. Super Saver was bet down not only because of Borel, but because he showed good off track form and had won previously at Churchill Downs on an off track.

I agree completely about Paddy, he was my horse, and was gearing up to make a huge run, but had all of his momentum sucked out of him at the top of the lane. Unfortunate. 2. While Super Saver did have a nice win back in November at Churchill downs, it was run over a track rated as fast. He did prove his off track worthiness at Belmont in September. I think Paddy should be a big factor in the Preakness with a clean trip, and Ice Box would be smart to skip the Preakness and come in the Belmont fresh in 5 weeks.
