On a Friday morning show, broadcaster Fred 'Toucher' Toettcher, of Boston's 98.5 WBZ-FM The Sports Hub, said Tebow's party “looked like some kind of Nazi rally. ...So lily-white is what I’m trying to say. Yeah, Stepford Wives.”

 

CBS, which owns WBZ-FM, has not said what, if any, sort of disciplinary action Toettcher will face.

 

In 2007, the company fired Don Imus for making racial slurs about black players for the Rutger's women's basketball team.

 

Currently, Tim Tebow is in Denver after being selected with the 25th pick of the first round by the Broncos.

 

Tebow has been the center of controversy before. He has been mocked for his Christian faith and for appearing with his mother in a controversial pro-life Super Bowl ad.

Dan Gainor, vice president for business and culture for the Media Reseach Center, a Washington, D.C.-based media watchdog group, said it’s “stunning” that Toettcher didn’t lose his job.

 

“It’s an amazing double standard,” Gainor said. “The left has decided to hate Tim Tebow for nothing more than the fact that he’s a good guy who tries to live an ethical and religious life.”

 

Bruce Schulman, a Boston University political history professor, called Toettcher’s remarks “tasteless and inappropriate.”

 

“In Massachusetts, there’s a certain subset of the sports fans that are culturally uncomfortable with the Evangelical Christian subculture of football in the South and the Southwest,” Schulman said.

Simply put, the guy should be treated like other people like Imus, etc, for making similar comments.

That is my understanding of what the guy said. Like the next post, the Boston U professor said there are groups up there that have a real problem understanding Evangelical Christian athletes from the south. THey have a problem with how Tim Tebow is living his life.

What would you expect? Is this something that should be a big national story? If the guy who said this was on ESPN or a similar nationwide broadcast, it probably would be a bigger story. But if we start trying to make national stories out of all the off hand comments local radio guys make, the news will probably last for 2 hours every night. Those guys make their money running on the edge and they often go too far.

This should be every bit as big of a story as Imus was, but we all know that'll never happen.

As bad as Imus' comments were, ... and they were horrible, ... this is worse IMHO. I wonder what the response would have been have had it been an African American dominated draft party and the comments were racial in nature. I really don't know, but just wonder.

 

I will say this, having lived in Orlando in the early to mid 1990's, there is quite a large and vocal contingent of liberal there.

I guess the Derby party my roommate and I are having is going to be a Nazi rally as well. I mean, there won't be any African-Americans there....:idunno:

I'm looking for a mountain out of a mole hill smile.... I honestly can't believe someone is trying to make an issue out of this. I am what would be considered on the left and I think Tebow was the best college football palyer I've ever seen and a fine human being. This is no more shocking or inappropriate than some of the stuff you hear on 500 wkrc or 700 wlw talk radio everyday. :deadhorse:
