Trust in the government peaked in 2000 and began to spin downward after that. Just like the economic system that Obama inherited, he inherited this movement as well. It will go up before 2012 when he is re-elected.

Are you really trying to say that trust in our government wasn't at its peak during the early 50's? I thought you were a teacher.

My apology. I forget what literalist we have on here.

Trust in government began to fall in the late 60s (republican govt). It continued to drop during Ford ® and Carter (D) and began to climb during Reagan"s ® first term, but began falling again during his second and continued falling until November of 1995 just before Clinton (D) was re-elected. It continued climbing until post 9-11 when it PEAKED, reaching it highest level in 30 years (my lifetime) and it has been on a steady decline since. But it is higher now than it was in 1994. I should have said it reached its PEAK during my lifetime around 9-11 and has been in steady decline since. However, it will continue to climb, there will be a domestic terrorist event, Obama will handle it well, trust will climb and Obama will be re-elected.

So, now you are a prophet? Trust in the government is tanking with hard working tax paying citizens. Those who have yet to be weaned from the government "milk machine" are the ones who think all is well.

I don't even know what your last sentence means.

I suppose we will see.

Anyone who totally trust the government is in denial. The US like every other government in the history of the world has moments of weakness, and have done things that are probably morally incorrect.

However those who live in hate for the government or fear of it need to look around or take a look at a history book. America today is still the best country that anyone has ever had to live in. I disagree with many policies put forward by the government from time to time, but I cannot imagine not being thankful for the freedoms that we have.

In America we argue about things like gay marriage, the economy, abortion, and the other usual liberal/conservative garbage. How many people in other countries wish that these were the biggest problems they face or have faced? I hate when people argue politics because in America we only see it from a very miniscule perspective that is really insignificant in the grand scheme of things. People in America are free, and though we have our problems I think that, the trials we face are insignificant compared to many of the other people in the World.

I believe arguments and protests are some of the reasons this country is as great as it is.

I agree with that. I think people just take it to an extreme. It's absolutely sickening to watch Fox News. It's nearly just as bad to watch liberal news stations as well. It's a never ending cycle of people being upset about a bunch of stuff that's never going to change.

The average person can talk politically, but unfortunately we all know the idiots who take it way too far. I just wish that people were more educated about the government and the US's history rather than listen to what the talking-heads on TV say.

I'm as guilty as anyone when it comes to being uneducated about government. I've learned a lot over the past six or seven years but have so much more to take in. Just think how under-educated our children will be. I'm trying my best to give some history lessons to my 14 year old. We all have core beliefs that (in most cases) in this country can't be labeled as right or wrong. That, IMO is the beauty of the arguments.

My apology. I forget what literalist we have on here.

I keep hearing this from BHO supporters.......you guys want it to happen so he can show hi worth..........AMAZING.

1st step in attacking gun rights.............

I started distrusting the government on May 4, 1970.

Certainly a dark day.

I believe arguments and protests are some of the reasons this country is as great as it is.

Here are some of the best statements I have every heard on this. It is at the very beginning of this clip.

Seeing the writing on the wall and wanting something to happen are very different notions. Please don't assign motive to a simple observation.
