Understand your thinking, but in this case he's apparently been "way to good to be true" for 25 years without any seeming repercussions?? Per LCPATS research, it sounds like he stocked U of L with players for many years, so let him help stock UK for awhile.:D

I still don't buy other schools being jealous of WWW. The 3 schools mentioned earlier are the holders of the last 3 National Championships. What is there to be jealous about?:idunno:

He is very similar to Sonny, but much more connected. Sonny has just about dried up, especially since the Tyler debacle. That was obviously bad advice.

WWW got his start back in the 80's with the Camden Connection. He was big buddies with Wagner and some of those guys that went to UofL, then on to the NBA. That's how he got his start, from those guys when they went pro and tagged along and met MJ and all those stars. He continued to network and turned himself into a business by taking care of people.

He's basically a runner/handler for Nike and various other people (agent Leon Rose). He takes care of those kids until they get to college. Basically he guides them to a coach who in return will protect them form other coaches/agents/sponsers until they leave school. They then sign with Nike or whoever WWW advises them too, and then he gets his cut. Prime example, LBJ and John Wall teaming up now. WWW is also connected to that deal. Now, the ironic thing about the LBJ/Wall deal is that they are looking at Reebok (who is desperate without A.I.). Some think they are using Reebok to get more from Nike.

The way I see it, EVERYONE knows him. So, if he were doing something wrong he would of got busted a long time ago. He's been around for 25 years or so. I would say his involvment will slow down now that he is planning to officially be an agent. That changes up his game a lot.

He's the most influential man in basketball, period. As for other schools being jealous, I don't blame them. Who wouldn't want kids like John Wall, D Rose, T Evans and Gilchrest.

The reasons that Wes doesn't get busted for anything and he is clean is because he simply uses NETWORKING to get in tight with these recruits and their families. He doesn't ask for anything in return and doesn't give out anything, other than advice.

He simply takes care of those who are around him. In return, the networking leads to more access toward anything and everything you can think of from free dinners to front row seats and field access at major sporting events

Nothing wrong with what he does, but the mystery of what he does to make a living is what intrigues everyone. The GQ article that CC posted above is the best article I've seen on Wes.

If I recall correctly, Cal isn't the only coach that Wes pushes players do. He's obviously the marque one, but not the only one. At least that's what I thought. :idunno:

That's just it. I'm just not fetching that he does what he does for nothing more than fellowship. This is not fantasyland. Everybody wants something for their services.

I didnt realize he was that young 45. Hard to believe he was responsible for the Camden Connection at the age of 16 or 17 yrs old. Wagner Was a McD in 81, Thompson 82, and Walls 84

I am skeptical that he does it out of good will, too. My question is, what does he get in return & who gives it to him?

He wasn't responsible for them going to Louisville. He was good friends with them and followed them to Louisville....that's it.

After college, when they went pro, that's when he got his serious connections. During high school he sold shoes....that's how he met the big time ball players.

It's not what you know it is who you know.

This is not a whole lot different than the "shoe wars" or select "AAU" teams.

Sometimes it is why you see kids wait so long, getting pressure to say close to home when they want to fly.

John Wall, his local handler wanted him at Duke. Duke wanted Wall. Clifton felt he would lose control of Wall if he went elsewhere. Wall waited a long time before calling for UK.

Some think the same thing is happening with CJ Leslie. he wants to leave but getting a lot of pressure to go to NC State, by his handlers.

That's just it. I'm just not fetching that he does what he does for nothing more than fellowship. This is not fantasyland. Everybody wants something for their services.

ACCESS is everything.

He does favors and gets favors in return. Nothing more, nothing less.

He has access to pretty much any and everything you can think of because of all of the networking he has done over the years. It's all about "who you know."

My point is he doesn't get that access without those granting it getting something in return.

Which again falls back on it's all about "who you know."
