I think the economy is going to stay in the crapper as our government continues to spend trillions that we don't have and the cost of living continues to increase.

 

Small businesses and probably some even larger businesses will not create job growth because of a) the increased costs that are being placed on them by the government; b) and the unknown future costs that they believe are going to be placed on them by the Obama administration.

 

2012 will be all about jobs and Mitt Romney will be the Republican answer as the lack of business people in Obama's administration is put into play.

 

Saw a stat yesterday that said that only 15% of Obama's administration have had jobs outside of government jobs. That simply they have no experience on how to truly create jobs in the private industry. Have no clue if that stat is accurate or what jobs it covers.

Interesting that Palin has the worst numbers of those listed. If she runs and somehow wins the nomination, Obama wins easily. It will be like Dole vs. Clinton. When Dole won the nomination, I said it is all over. No way he could beat Clinton. Same for Palin and I don't care what Obama does between now and 2012. Palin would be a horrible choice.

 

As I recover from surgery my dad came over and sat with me. We were switching channels through the three different news networks.

 

And I promise that MSNBC had a news item that was discussing the demands that Palin was making on her speaking tour. Even had a college president on to defend it. The listed four items that she was demanding.

They even had a news ticker that said and I promise MSNBC ran this.....Palin demands bendable straws.

 

My dad is a Democrat to the core. If I ran as a Republican, I wouldn't count on his vote. Doesn't matter who the candidate is, he pulls straight Democrat ticket lever. And he thought this was ridiculous.

Why do you see Obama able to overcome his association to the healthcase issue, but not Romney? Plus Obama has the economy that is going to weigh heavily on him. I think Romney has a reasonable shot, at least I hope so. I am a diehard and lifelong Republican, but I really don't think I can vote for Palin. I thought she brought new life and fresh air to the party 2 1/2 years ago, but her schtick has long since grown extremely tiresome.

 

Romney's problem is that he has to get through the Republican primary where voters will be frenetic in their opposition to Obama's plan. I'm sure some will even stake their campaign on advocating its repeal. Since Romney singed a nearly identical bill as governor, he really doesn't have an out if health reform is the salient issue.

 

On the other hand, the recently passed reform will likely be relatively popular by 2012. Despite a full scale media assault against it, the internal components remain quite popular. This tells me that once the bill becomes defined by what it does rather than the legislative battle surrounding it then its favorability should jump. Not to mention, it represents an extremely significant policy achievement, which gets a lot of mileage as campaign rhetoric. But, realistically, it's all about the economy. If it improves this is mostly moot.

 

The other problem is that if the economy is still shaky, Romney is the best bet to take the White House, yet he has the least chance of getting out of the primary.

Those are nice talking points. The RNC would be proud. Could you please cite where you are getting your numbers about the cost of living? Inflation has been and continues to be very moderate. The CPI increase was 0.1 percent in 2008, 2.7 pecrcent in 2009 and 0.4 percent so far this year. What are the increased costs that have been placed on small business by the Obama administration? As someone that has been in small business my entire career, I can tell you that the health care reforms can't be implemented fast enough. They will be a tremendous benefit to small businesses that currently provide health insurance coverage. Small and large businesses create jobs because there is a market for what they make and sell. Incentives and costs may make it more or less dificult to add workers, but no amount of government incentive will convince me to hire a worker I don't need and no cost will stop me from hiring someone I can make money on. Mitch McConnel and others of his ilk have discovered that if they repeat lies often enough, those who want to believe them will believe them and then repeat the talking points. I have great faith in the American people. Eventually they will see the lies for what they are.

I quit worrying back about the time everyone told me that financing the war in Iraq wasn't going to impact my children and grandchildren's futures. I figured it wasn't worth my time and effort to worry about what the governemnt would be doing, and make sure they understood they needed to build stable futures for themselves. Because even at that time, the government had no eye on the future.

I figured it wasn't worth my time and effort to worry about what the governemnt would be doing, and make sure they understood they needed to build stable futures for themselves. It could go down and be far short of a depression. Taxes have to increase, interest rates will be going up, unemployment remains a huge problem and companies are reluctant to start hiring even when things might look up, like the manufacturing sector currently is experiencing. Throw in the energy and health program costs and there is certainly a possibility that it turns down.

To what level? That would be nice if it does.

 

I forget the exact level but it was about $300 million below the projections. Still way to high, but good news anyway. The long term solution to the budget deficit will require entitlement reform. That is what really worries me. Whatever is proposed will be unpopular. That gives the side that didn't propose it an election issue. The only way it will work is if both parties hold hands and walk off the cliff together. Tip O'neill did it with Reagan in the 80's. I just can't picture Mitch McConnell doing the same thing. The strange thing is that it wouldn't take that severe a change to fix social security and Medicare. I think some combination of a rise in the retirement age and a rise in the max income level for social security would fix SS. Medicare is a little tougher, but changing the Medicare age to match the SS age would help a lot.
