Interesting that Palin has the worst numbers of those listed. If she runs and somehow wins the nomination, Obama wins easily. It will be like Dole vs. Clinton. When Dole won the nomination, I said it is all over. No way he could beat Clinton. Same for Palin and I don't care what Obama does between now and 2012. Palin would be a horrible choice.

I hope the economy grows like never before, every person that wants a job gets one, the Fair Tax is passed, everyone has better/cheaper healthcare, politicians become statesmen, the world at peace and Obama gets re-elected because he is responsible for it all. Seriously! I do.

That is not a result of the HCRA, goodness gracious. That is going up to balance Kentucky's budget. it is better than layoffs.

As much as I like Sarah Palin, especially her down to earthiness and what I think is a genuine urge to govern for the people, I must say that I agree with you. I wasn't so sure a few months ago, but after putting some realistic thought into it, she can't win.:cry: Newt can though!:ylsuper:

And like it or not, health care reform was a major promise in his campaign and he can say he kept his promise on that as well as the troops. Not many politicians are able to say they did what they promised. I saw in the paper the other day that they are now projecting the deficit is going to shrink this year. And we all know the power of incumbency. I think it will be difficult to beat Obama.

I really don't think so. Plus, the health care promise was likely at the expense of a lot of Dems jobs, we'll see in November.

Head to head polls this early are almost meaningless. Respondents don't take them seriously and we aren't even looking at the full cast of the Republican primary slate or the issues that will be important in 2012.

 

That looks to be a weak Republican field as well. Huckabee and Palin would be sacrificial lambs. I think Ron Paul is too extreme. Romney can't win the primary because of his signature as governor on a nearly identical healthcare policy that Obama has promoted. I like Pawlenty but I think he lacks the charisma to best an incumbent. I think Gingrich would be the most formidable. Although he has some baggage and I'm not sure how that will play amongst the entirety of the electorate, especially since he caters exclusively to conservatives. I assume there will be a few new faces as the election nears, though.

 

Obama's favorability numbers are typical, if not a bit higher than most early first-term presidents. He has one huge legislative accomplishment in his pocket that most other first-term presidents haven't had. Not to mention the electoral advantage of being an incumbent is unparalleled. The single largest factor is the economy. If it stays as is through 2012 he will have a very, very tough race and likely be beaten by any opponent. If the economy turns around he will have a hand-ride to a second election victory.

 

Why do you see Obama able to overcome his association to the healthcase issue, but not Romney? Plus Obama has the economy that is going to weigh heavily on him. I think Romney has a reasonable shot, at least I hope so. I am a diehard and lifelong Republican, but I really don't think I can vote for Palin. I thought she brought new life and fresh air to the party 2 1/2 years ago, but her schtick has long since grown extremely tiresome.

The sentiment around my area is this is starting a push by some to get us off the states insurance and into a government system.

 

Whether its true or not that is the perception and perception is reality..........

It all depends on the economy. If it's still an issue, Mitt Romney will be the next President. If it has gotten better, Obama will almost assuredly be re-elected.
