Was talking to some West Jessamine folks about Polson's workout with the Cats this week. I was told it went very well, and Mr Polson was invited back. I was told he held his own against the Ky players that participated.

 

Was Jarrod Polson the ultimate sleeper, or are the gurus that evaluate talent all caught up in the hype that is created for some players? Also, does this disprove the argument that a player has to play for say a Scott Co. that gets " exposer" (as so many of the SC folks claim), to get noticed?

Hopefully he is as you say a "sleeper". I have no doubts that he'll be asked to walk-on. And seeing the options that he has, I would expect him to accept the walk on invite.

He played great @ Rupp two seasons in a row. This is what got the buzz going about Mr. Polson.

He didn't do much in the Ohio-Ky allstar game saturday at Thomas More, do not think he would do anything different than what Mark Krebs did at UK.

All star games like on Sat night are not a very good way to judge a player. Not much time to practice, players are with a set group when they are in, players trying to "show off" or impress colleges.

Then why have them? What is the purpose? Why not just name an all-star team and leave it at that?

All Star games are pretty much a "money thing". You ask a bunch of good players to come and play to get butts in the seats and have them buy concessions. That is why they have so many of them. Whoever gets the rebound, if they can dribble brings it up and goes one on one and throws up a shot. How can you really judge a player by what they do in these types of games. Very unorganized and playing time is all different depending on who you are or who the coaches are and who the media wants in the game. So to answer the question, why have them? MONEY, AND THAT IS IT.

Yeah, you're right. Kids don't want to shine in these things. They'd prefer to be shown up. Why play hard? So what if a player scores repeatedly on another? I have zero desire to see a kid play with heart or show a competitive spirit every time they step on the court. We should all discount Vance Hall's performance too. Heck, no one played hard.

These games and dunk contests are some of my least favorite events. They batre both contrary to good play.

I, myself, played against West Jessamine last year during the regular season and I was not impressed by Polson. IMO he is a star player on an average team from a weak region. But that is just my opinion. Last year when West Jessamine played Harrison County Harrison won by close to 15. Also, Harrison is usually ranked around 5th or 6th best in THEIR region. Those are just my opinions however.

Kids don't play hard. Little or no defense. Try to get their own and not worry about the team. Polson definitely is not that kind of player, to thrive in that kind of environment.

So should we judge the one bad game Polson played against Harrison County or the two years worth of good games in district, regional, and state tournaments? I understand you said it was your opinion and I have no complaint with that. But as someone from the 12th Region who has seen Polson play many, many times over the last two seasons, I think he could definitely contribute in time at the Division I level. He'll never be a star; he'll likely never even be all-conference. But neither were Anthony Epps and Cameron Mills. But what they were is something Polson could be: a key contributor on a championship team.
