Come on Walter, have you seen all the kids in the state? He's a fine player, and we all wish him well but let's not make him out to be something he's not. I hope he gets his academia in order and get's his education paid for. If that's at a high level, sobeit and we'll all root for him to do so. I wish him luck.

 

I've seen a lot of the top players around the state over the past few years.

 

I'm not making him out to be something he isn't, but you look at any scouting report on him on any recruiting site and they all talk about his athleticism overwhelming opponents.

 

His sophomore to junior summer, he had coaches all around the Holmes campus to see him. Heck, Huggins and Cronin were regulars.

 

The reason his stock has dropped is because of his academics. If those were in order, you'd see this kid signing with a high D1 program right now. Bob Huggins will be the first to tell you that my assessment of his game is pretty fair.

 

BTW, Jody Demling described Elijah as a "freak athlete that can score at will" and ole' Billy Hicks said Pittman was a "monster" after seeing him first hand last year when Holmes beat Scott Co.

The issue is that he's been eligible to be on a high school team for how many consecutive years without any known grade suspensions, but all of sudden, he can't qualify for any NCAA levels? Apparently someone had him on the wrong track; hence my question about guidance counseling. I think with the right guidance, leadership and some maturing, we could possibly see him in a succesfull DI program, but they have let it slip so far behind, it's going to be harder on him mentally to get up to that level. He's got work to do on and off the court and I wish the best for him.

As far as I know, his attendance hasn't been in question. I've never heard anyone mention it.

I question that because of statements from classmates and it is possible to have a low test score, but also be accepted because you have a high GPA. That's for those who are poor test takers, but perform well in class. With his athletic ability he should have been giuded to study and prepare to take that test as many times as he was allowed.

Sounds like this school will be good for him. They're not just using up the kids for two years and letting them go, they're actually moving them up to the next level. I hope he's excited enough about his opportunities to work really hard in the classroom for a few years and he could possibly have one of the best success stories from the area.

Not a bad area to attend school, pretty close to the beach.

I hope they get him stronger and develop his play around the basket. We all know he likes to fire up the 3 ball.

Congratulations to the Big "E" I don't think a lot of people understand what its like growing up in East Covington and not getting the support that he needs at home. The boy has practically raised himself. He's lucky to have made it this far. IF IT WASN"T FOR BASKETBALL AND HIS GOD-GIVEN TALENT I'd hate to think where this young could have ended up.

He's still in my doghouse for his antics after the loss to Newport in the regionals. But, I hope someone gets a hold of him and gives him the support he needs and that he matures and grows out of the side show that he's been carrying with him.

Something needs to change at Covington Holmes HS academically speaking (Basketball players), as the players aren't getting the education that they need to attend a D1 college, not due to their ability to play basketball but the lack of education to get in.
