Been hearing this new tune a lot lately by "Strand of Oaks" and every time I do I think of @Lawnboy13 and @Science Friction

 

...Not saying that you'll necessarily dig it, but the sentiment of the tune and what he's saying about longing for the good old days of listening to the radio sound like the cries I've been hearing from you guys.

 

Strand of Oak is the project band of Goshen, Indiana native Timothy Showalter. This type of looking back reminiscing to rock n' roll is a reoccurring theme in his tunes.

 

Another notable tune from him would be Goshen '97, and another tune named "JM" which is an ode to Jason Molina, a songwriter who fronted a band that I really like named "Songs: Ohia" who died young a few years back from complications of alcoholism. The song "JM" reminds me a whole lot of Neil Young's - Cortez the Killer in the the way he slow jams the tune out, and its goose bumpy intensity.

Been liking what I've been hearing from these L.A. dudes Local Natives. They're coming to town in early April and I've been thinking about taking in their show.

Been digging Cincinnati band Wussy's tune "Beautiful"

I really should check it out. I caught them doing an in-store at Shake-it Records with Daniel Martin Moore last year that was pretty cool.

 

When I first heard "Beautiful" I was thinking that I was hearing Michael Stipe and was wondering who he was dueting with. Though it's Wussy's song I wouldn't mind hearing a cover of Michael Stipe and somebody like Kate Pierson of the B-52's doing it.

Went back and forth thinking about checking these Oregon dudes out at their recent sold out Woodward Theatre show in Cincy and still regret not going, but it does look like they're gonna be at the Forecastle in Louisville in July.

 

It has an undeniable Disco sheen but it sounds fresh, smooth, and nicely produced blaring through the speakers.
