Rumors were flying heavy all week where I was that Knipp to Scott Co. could be very well be a possibility.

I would like to know how many blocked shots Ballard had in this game. I felt like that was the main difference in the game. They blocked 3 or 4 shots that Scott Co. would normally make.

I am not the slightest bit envious of Scott County, or their "earning" their way into the state tournament . I actually loth them. They represent everything bad about the one-class Sweet Sixteen format. With an enrollment of 2300 plus the ship-ins, it makes them very hard for an outsider to support.

 

I think that thousands of others in attendance at this year's tournament agree.

 

From all indications they have sold themselves out to the point where thye no longer have the support of their own fan base.

The KHSAA couldn't stop Euton and Jackson from going there. If the Knipp family moved to Georgetown, there wouldn't be much the KHSAA could do about it.

:thumb: Exactly. A lot of teams have transfers. Knott Central had them. Newport's best player was a transfer. Last year Holmes and Hazard had 3 transfer starters. Those are just the examples I know about. I have no idea if all the Ballard players are from Ballard's district or Christian Co.

You make a good point.

Players arrive from all over the state, land in your lap, and are cleared to play by the KHSAA. What's a big 2300 student, basketball tradition-rich school to do? Play the hand you are dealt and thank God for the influx of talent.

 

I guess I would see it that way if I were on your side of the fence. I'm sure that you can see where this raises problems. First from the home grown kids who came up in the Scott County program and have been usurped by the move-ins, and secondly from the rest of the state, who are forced to play the hands we have been dealt without the advantage of having D-I players falling into our laps.

 

I hope you also see that where, in a one-class system this spells out as being a huge advantage to Scott County. Were we multi-class, the larger schools would have a better chance overcoming this seeming disadvantage.

 

Put yourself on the outside looking in and you can see why there is much dissent towards Scott County, and why the rest of the programs in the state are happy to see them defeated.

 

With Shelby Valley, who I will assume runs a clean program, winning this year, overcoming all of the perceived disadvantages of having to beat the Ballards and Scott County's of the world, it kind of lets the KHSAA off of the hook, as they continue to veiw the entire state's basketball programs as playing on a level playing field.

Great point Mustang. If Scott Co would have won the crown it would have deserved an asterisk. JMO and I'm sure many others around the state.

So if Scott Co. deserved an asterisk, doesn't Holmes deserve one last year with 3 starters who were transfers?

 

Also, in 07 Scott Co. won the state and didn't have any transfers. I heard all the kids went to middle school in Scott Co. as well. They went undefeated in the state of Ky. Plus them being in the 11th region they have gotten more notoriety. The win over Huntington with Mayo and Patterson was huge IMO. Then you look at their schedule they go to City of the Palms or Beach Ball every year, which are huge hs tourneys that get a ton of exposure. With the program Coach Hicks has built kids are going to want to play there.
