GaViking Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 We are planning a trip to Chicago, and we would like to attend a daytime baseball game at Wrigley Field. Does anyone have suggestions on hotels and transportation to the game? We plan on driving to Chicago the morning of the game, so we can't leave the car at the hotel. Also, we have a group of people who may want to see the night life for a couple of nights.
Irish Cat Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 DO NOT attempt to drive to a Cubs game. The best way to get there is take the red line. You can get a visitors pass for like $5.00 and have unlimited rides for a 48 hour period. Unless you absolutely want to stay downtown hotels are much cheaper in the suburbs. We once stayed near O'hare. You can take the Blue line into town and transfer to the Red. Our hotel provided a free shuttle to the airport where you can catch the train. Or their are several park and ride areas along the route. As far as nightlife, there are plenty of bars around Wrigley, or downtown. The Sears tower is a neat experience as well.
Irish Cat Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Is the red line a subway? It's part of the "L". http://www.transitchicago.com/riding_cta/systemguide/redline
CincySportsFan Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Went to Chicago the first year new Comisky opened up with a friend I had grown up with back home. We picked one of the rare weekends when both the Cubs and White Sox were playing at home, so we could see both teams on the trip. Anyway, we got a hotel out by the airport. Left Cincinnati in the morning and got to the hotel in the early afternoon, checked in, and left with what we thought was plenty of time to get to Wrigley for the first pitch. Was talking while we got back on the freeway, and suddenly there's the ballpark. Only problem was...we had gotten into one of the express lanes, and there were no exits!! Had to take it all the way back downtown, and then backtrack back north. By the time we got a parking spot and got inside, we missed the first 3 innings!
Clyde Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Get a hotel downtown. You can't go to Chicago without experiencing downtown Chicago. Check the Best Western off of Michigan and Ohio. Be ready to pay a lot for tickets.

Be ready to pay a lot for tickets. This is the hotel we've checked out. As far as the tickets go, it's a life time experience for us. We lived in Indiana for 6 yrs and listened to Harry and the Cubs.

ColonelCrazy Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 It is easy (and expensive) to scalp tickets. There is a little place right outside of Wrigley that is an actual business that scalps tickets. I'd recommend that. It may be a little bit more expensive, but you won't get scammed with fake tickets.
Guest Bluto Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Have fun the Cubs and Chicago rule! Well, I think you're half-right: Chicago's the greatest.
ACE Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 When my wife and I did Chicago(and a Cubs game) we stayed at the House of Blues Hotel downtown. This motel overlooked one of the rivers, had a H of B restaurant and a short walk from Michigan Ave, Harry Carry's, etc. It's worth looking into.
Reality Check Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 When my wife and I go to Chicago we stay at the Allerton. Older hotel but recently renovated. Its right on Michigan ave and has good access to the "L" it would be about a 20-30 minute train ride to Wrigley if my memory serves me correctly.

If it's a once in a lifetime experience stay at something a little nicer than the Best Western. the Knickerbocker is a classic downtown hotel, if you prefer a new upscale trendy hotel, I'd recommend the Dana (brand new place). You can drop the car off at the hotel and than go to the game. Dana does not have a garage but there is a lot next door. Stub hub for tickets.
The Scribe Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I have always stayed in the suburbs and driven into the game. If you park near the stadium, it will cost a bunch. But Ive never had any issues.
