Who really cares if NCC or anyone else move their freshmen to JV? It's called a freshmen baseball team for a reason. If there is no need to move freshmen up and use 8th graders then most "private" schools do not do it. This year is the first time Holy Cross has ever had to use 8th graders. Public schools cut freshmen and keep 8th and sometimes 7th graders. This would never fly at a private school because of the kids paying tuition. Which if you really think about it means that most public schools field the best team available at the varsity, jv and freshmen levels. Private schools like Holy Cross, NCC, St. Henry are limited to who they cut and when they move kids up and use 8th graders.

 

Again I am not interested in debating, but that statement is just not true.

That came directly from the Varsity Head Coaches mouth. I am going by what I am told by the man in charge.

Jim Ryan and Bray were exceptions. I think what mister cee is trying to say is that this is the first time in the programs history that tryouts were open to eighth graders. Correct me if I'm mistaken but I don't believe there were tryouts for eighth graders in Ryan's or Bray's years, the two were "asked" to play for the team.

Not correct, and believe me I am not trying to be a smartaleck about this. But when Bray, Ryan, Crail-I could name a couple of others-were 8th graders they tried out and 9th graders that were attending Holy Cross high school were cut. To be clear-9th graders at Holy Cross were cut in favor of 8th graders not yet attending Holy Cross. The head varsity coach Mike Holtz was the varsity coach then just as he is now.

 

I just don't like when coaches-not mister cee or you ets factor-make incorrect statements to the public at large.

Yea probably because they are the only ones I know on the team. To be honest I know as 8th graders those 3 played Frosh baseball so I figured they might have moved them up.

Foster is another one. I will try to get their first names too so as to not be incomplete, but there is 4 out of a roster of 14, and some 9th graders were cut. Year was between 2001 + 2003. (Not meaning 2002 necessarily)

 

Bray and Ryan were teachers kids. Foster and Crail were not.

^^^I know my original point has been proven. The number of kids really doesn't matter. It is the supposed statement of the coach that bothered me the most. :clap:

That year the Indians varsity made it to the Region final against Boone County-the last season Holy Cross has made it to the Region I believe. None of the 8th graders were on the varsity squad. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Lee Meeks was the coach in 2001. That was his last year as coach.

Lee is a nice man and great coach. Teresa Meeks is as sweet as they come.

They actually made it the following year by beating Holmes, that was also the year that Ludlow beat CovCath in districts.
