First of all, 64 miles round trip would be 128 miles, so obviously mathematics and calculation is not your strong point.

 

Secondly, the radio stations asked at the beginning of the year if there would be a cost for covering the regional tournament and it was said there would be a connection/hookup fee and that was agreed upon. Then, three days before the Girls Draw, everyone gets an e-mail stating there would be $100 broadcast fee per tournament, $100 banner fee per tournament (just to hang your banner up), and a connection fee for a grand total of $500.00. After all that, it would have been reasonable if the radio stations were given time to package the Regional Tournament separate from regular season coverage. But 3 days???? That's a day late and a dollar short.

 

The REAL story is they didn't sell half as many VIP/Reserved/Sponsor Seats as they hoped so they in turn decided to hand over the cost and responsibility to the radio stations to make their money back. That is simply bad organization, especially when the cost information was asked for before the season ever started.

 

So you can make excuses for the Arena, you can try to cover up the wounds, but the bottom line is all of the points from the start of this thread is legitimate, and you all know it is true.

 

Once again I say, I'm not saying I hate the Arena, want to boycott the Arena, or anything like that. I'm just saying there are obvious falacies and ALL of us should be adult enough to agree that is the case and move on to a great Regional Tournament.

 

That 4 miles is a huge difference. Cost another $8 in gas to travel that far....:deadhorse:

The hospitality room got a bad review from what I saw tonight. There was plenty of good food from Applebees andI also got to meet Senator David Williams and Senator Stivers.

BUT, why do you state SO MANY FALACIES before this statement? The view? The concessions? The hospitality room? Even the atmosphere.....Please explain your earlier statements that we know are absolutley FALSE. You stated that they charged fifty cents for mustard when there is a 1 gallon jug available that you could probably walk out the front door with if you wanted.

 

After reading your statement earlier today I even stood in all 4 corners (the furthest point from the floor) and could see perfect.

Maybe one long, but not 3. I stood in a corner for the last 2 OTs and could see fine.

 

I drove to the arena earlier today and bought tickets for $8 reserved seats. General admission was $7 which included corner seats. They might should consider making those $5 except for championship games. But, anyone could pretty much sit where they pleased.

 

I know it was a Corbin crowd and a very exciting game, but I thought it was an awesome atmosphere tonight.........and by butt didn't get sore from sitting on the wood bleachers.:clap:

 

One idea on the tournament shirts would be to sell them in the colors of the schools participating in addition to the generic gray and white. And maybe some people in the seating areas selling drinks, programs and shirts.....

My biggest problem with the Arena is paying more for a pair of tickets to watch a regional game than I pay to go watch a Sweet 16 game in Rupp.

Over 4,000 tickets sold tonight. Both games were good games and the atmosphere of the Corbin v. Bell Co. game was amazing. I was down on the floor and it got very loud during the overtimes. The rest of this tournament should be great. Saturday and Monday night could potentially sell out.

I went to the game tonight, the atmosphere was as good as any regional tournament that I have attended. And......get this.....I was 2 rows from the back row in section 106 and could see perfect, I could even read the team names and numbers on jerseys without binoculars or telescopes!! Unreal! Didn't even feel as though I was going to have a nose bleed. No long lines for a restroom.

 

When we arrived about 6:10 pm it was a breeze getting up the hill, had parking lot attendants directing me to where available spots were and, had attendants directing me to the proper door to enter. There was a couple of people that even got the information needed to purchase tickets BEFORE attempting entry into the wrong door.

 

 

I also got a little thirsty and went to the concession stand and got a 16 oz. pepsi and a popcorn which was larger than the average size bag found at most gyms and it came in an easy to handle cup intead of a bag:popcorn: and I didn't even have to pawn anything to purchase this, let alone sell my house :confused:.....I think it was $4.00 could have been $4.50, I paid with a 5 and got change back. Yeah if the game was held at a hot and cramped highschool gym I could have saved probably 50 cents on the concessions maybe $1 on admission. I even had enough cash left over to stop at the bottom of the hill and have a couple of brews and some food at Applebees along with a few Bell Co. fans.

 

I never got kneed in the back, elbowed in the side or had some fat guys butt in my face going down the isle.

 

The city of Corbin nor Corbin High School had anything to do with the operation of this tournament. With that said, the Arena had nothing to do with the programs nor the hospitality room should not be blamed on either as they had nothing to do with either.

 

Paying broadcasting right fees does not entitle you to free food. I would be willing to bet anything that your radio station made a LOT more money from advertisers than they paid to broadcast the tournament. Besides, the press and the referees are the only people getting paid (other than arena staff). Buy your own food!

 

Highway 119 is a terrible road to drive, that 30 or so mile stretch of road between Pineville and Harlan is one of the worst drives you can make. 25 is an interstate compared to 119. I have traveled 119 5 times in the past 2 years and have witnessed or been held up in traffic 4 of the 5 times due to a serious accident. Coincidence? Maybe....but??....

 

And, BTW, picking on someone for mispelling a word is so juvenile, but we can't all be perfect now can we?

Third, you obviously didn't read my previous post stating that our radio station WOULD HAVE made a substantial profit off the 13th Regional Tournament IF we would have known in advance the broadcast fees were going to be charged. Instead, what we agreed upon was thrown to the woodshed after all of those VIP/Reserved/Sponsor Seats were not sold. Therefore, for $500.00, I think we deserve a little something more than the thrill and experience of getting to sit courtside at The Arena in the presence of these well-known distinguished celebrities also known as the 14th Region Officials.

 

Fourth, do you think maybe after the first round of the Girls Tournament that maybe, just maybe The Arena made some changes to the concession prices, hospitality rooms, and other things??? CHANGES???? NO WAY!!!!!! Plus, do you think maybe it had something to do with Senators Williams and Stivers being there that made them up the ante on the hospitality rooms??? Or could it possibly have been that CORBIN was playing??? No, couldn't have been.

 

Fifth, it was announced Saturday at the 13th Region Girls Draw by North Laurel Principal Michael Black that the City of Corbin would be providing the "WORKING" hospitality room while North Laurel High School would be providing the Players/Cheerleaders Hospitality Room. So, Mr. "City of Corbin is not responsible for anything", in fact, they were. Get your facts straight or save us all from possibly being infected by your ignorance!

 

Finally, Campbell Field, knowing that Corbin is in White and Red while Bell Co. is in Blue and White does not necessarily mean you could read the jerseys and uniform numbers. Also, I guess you could see perfect seeing as how you were in Section 106, which by the way, SPLITS Center Court!!!!

 

Therefore, I give in Campbell Field, you are correct. The Arena is the greatest thing to happen to Eastern Kentucky since.....Campbell Field!!!!

I could be wrong on this, but I thought when the argument to use/not use the Arena for this thing that they (the powers that be) said the concessions would be about the same as if they were at a high school hosted tourney. Are they anywhere close? I have not been to the tourney and do not know, but I do remember this statement sticking out because we discussed how you could say something like that knowing you would have to pay workers the same regardless of prices. Just wondering. I have no dog in this fight.

 

Some of the complaints on here are the same ones everyone feared when it was in the planning stages. Some could be first year hosting problems. If it is the first year problem, it will work itself out. If it is an ongoing situation, I am sure it will work itself out by the ADs at the schools shooting down the venue in the future. Like someone on here said, if you are hungry enough, you will pay the high cost for a hotdog. Same for hosting the tourney. If enough schools get fed up, situations don't improve to the schools liking and things don't work themselves out, this was a nice little experiment and we'll be back to the school gyms. Time will tell.

 

Sounds like a little bit of confusion, a little bit of misunderstanding and a little bit of poor operations from what I have read on here.

The tickets for the region are cheaper than tickets for the Sweet 16, so that should not be a problem.

I was impressed with all of the support people who were helping direct traffic in the parking area, the ones outside by the doors directing people which door to enter in depending on if you had tickets already or not and the people inside who were showing people to their seats. The North Laurel contingent along with what I suppose were Arena staff seemed to have everything covered as far as my needs were concerned. The people working the hospitality room could not have been nicer either.

 

I did not go to the concession stand, although I did give money to one of my kids to get food and they actually gave me some of it back, so I'm certain that the prices could not have been as high as some have claimed on here.

 

So in conclusion, although I admit it was only based on one night's experience, I have to give North Laurel props on the professional way they are handling the tournament.

I think that NL AD Jimmy Durham and Principal Mike Black really wanted the tourney to be a big success and have worked very hard to make it work. They were glad that NL was finally going to get to host a region tourney (they missed their chance as they left the 12th just before it would have been their turn), but the chairbacks being planned for NL haven't been put in yet and I don't think the new lobby restrooms were done either. I believe their will always be rough spots the first year, but I do know that it is a nice facility, and even though I was against The Arena hosting the tourney, I am going to give it a fair chance tonight.
