I think greedy bankers who are addicted to money and power should not be eligible for subsidies and tax credits.

 

If you are involved in anything which is illegal, then you should not be eligible for government assistance IMHO. Whether it be drugs or corporate illegal activity.

Isn't that the only people that qualify for UI? You can't get UI for getting fired can you? I believe that the people who are receiving UI are unemployed due to no fault of their own, and that is how they qualify for benefits, right? Not sure what you mean by "with the exception of layoffs"??

You can if you meet certain conditions, and your employer doesn't fight it. You can also get it if you quit, under certain conditions.

We had a guy that worked for us for serveral years. He decided he couldn't get along with another employee so he quit. He got another job but was fired after only a few months. Since he wasn't at that job long enough to draw unemployment on them he drew it on us.

Somewhat surprised on this one. Was under the impression that you could not draw UI if you chose to quit a job. Your company didn't fight this? I am surprised the employee won this hearing assuming your company protested.

I don't even want it for layoffs. People are too freaking spoiled and pampered these days. If you get laid off, you can still find A job.

What I was told by our HR department was since he was fired from the other job but was not there long enough to draw on them it came back on us even though he quit his job with us. That's the best explanation I can give with talking to them more.

While I agree to a point I do think there should be some period of assitance until you find a new job. What I don't like is the continued extension of benefits. Sorry but there definitely comes a time when you have to suck it up and flip burgers. If the jobs just aren't available in your area then maybe it's time to think about a move.

Ending unemployment would probably work.

Let's say for example that employee A was fired for stealing flat screen TV's out of a warehouse, and the company fired him. Employee A would not be eligible for UI. Normally, when an employee leaves, it falls into (3) categories: fired for documented cause, laid off for lack of work or position elimination and employee quit.

How we do it is...just flat out end it. As of 30 days from now (see I have a heart) nobody in this country will receive UI.

Actually in almost every state employees are considered to be "at will" which means they can be fired for any reason other than sex, age, race, religion.

 

Each state determines which fired employees would be eligible. Misconduct , as in your example, might be a reason to be denied in one state but not another.

 

Poor performance is covered in every state as far as I know. So if you couldn't make enough cookies on the line or if you couldn't sell enough widgets and that was why you were fired you would collect UI.
