George Rogers Clark 52 Montgomery County 40

As I said, never under estimate coach Griesser's game planning and I bet given being out of school he had some sort of extra practice before the game to make sure his team was fully prepared. I knew this game would be closer than last time.

Wasn't this the Vandy vs UnConn offensive?

Someone has a good memory!!!!

From the Winchester Sun article posted by Gold:

They were probably here for a moral victory and we were here to get the victory,” Clark coach Scott Humphrey said afterward. “They were fine with losing by 12 and we’re fine with winning by 12

Quite an assumption by Coach Humphrey if you ask me.

Truth hurts.

Truth hurts.

Truth is GRC and its giants should have squashed Montgomery but they didn't so quotes like this are thrown out to downplay the sub-par performance of the Cards and the over-achieving performance by the kids from Mt. Sterling. A bit of humility from Coach H would have been nice to read - maybe even a compliment for the way Montgomery's kids executed a game plan that gave them an outside shot at a win.....

I love Gold and I'm one of the few with Mt. Sterling ties that cheers for GRC because they're in the 40th but I'll also call a spade a spade and this comment doesn't voice the truth in any way, shape or form.

I'd have a tough time believing that any team playing with a chance to face a district runnerup in the first round of the regional tournament is playing for a moral victory. My guess is that MC implemented the game plan that they thought gave them the best chance to win; not the game plan that gave them the best chance to lose by 12.

I do agree that comment shouldn't have been made, especially publicly and some credit should have been given to Montgomery for the game plan... but in all likelihood what he said isn't false.

:thumb: In a championship game nobody is playing for moral victories, you play for the championship. Add to it this is a big rivalry and you have both teams doing what they feel would be best to win.

Why would you hold the ball and run NO offense down 17 points in the fourth quarter? You must make baskets to score points in order to win, correct? This was an attempt to keep a score respectable and anyone who says otherwise is not looking at it honestly.

From a fans perspective it sounds like it wasn't what you paid to see, but how a coach operates a team is up to that coach. Some of these scores that I have seen posted across the state that were so lopsided, I believe I would have done the same thing as what Coach Greissers game plan was in this one. Whatever the score at the half was in the previous game was between Montgomery/Clark I can't remember but what I believe was a pretty lopsided affair, this is no fun for the kids on the receiving end of this so I am sure Montgomery County took into account this and gave their kids the best shot of keeping it respectable and as close as they could.

It's all over, let's move on. What people do or what people have said, we can't change. Let's get ready for whats coming up and put this game behind us. Good luck to both Montgomery and Clark in the regionals.

We can all agree on one thing.

The game plan has certainly gotten some attention from others.

Like it or not, the MC game plan will cause Clark Co. to prepare differently this week.

I read the same article in the Sun and my first thought was "bulletin board" material. I would watch the comments I made. It falls back on the coaching when you have the most talented and tallest team in the state and can not win the big games. Some will question "most talented". My statement is made as a team. With Zollo, Stenzel, Rogers (Corey and Charles), Kindred, Daniels, Fatkin, Martin, Purvis, and Van Cleve as your team, you have the talent. (By the way, that is TEN players).

And the statement "moral victory". Since when do these two teams get together in anything with one of them wanting a "moral victory". It is one of the top rivalries in the state. There are NO MORAL VICTORIES!!! If you win great... if you lose, whether by 1 or 100, you lost. When we played last week, we lost and I do not remember any Indians coming out of the locker room talking about a "moral victory".
