George Rogers Clark 52 Montgomery County 40

Featured Replies

Question - was it harder to watch than the Bourbon Co game in the first round?

About the same. If the game isn't close enough to keep the varsity in the game , I don't enjoy it much. In my opinion, both of GRC's games in the district were boring. Things will pick up next week.

Best wishes to Rogers. Hate to see someone who plays as hard as him go down with another injury. He's a fun player to watch, and one of the few players who seems to be able to goof around in a way that isn't offensive to the other team. Hopefully he'll have a speedy recovery.

Being a Montgomery Co fan and watching the anger across the court on the faces of all the Clark Co fans... there was some satisfaction in that.

More than that, knowing that the Indians were in striking distance in the fourth quarter made for a much better game than getting blown out by 40 or more.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I think the anger was more frustration! This was the third time, at least, a coach tried to play this stall game against GRC and it hasn't worked yet! The officials didn't help the cause much either, some horrible calls made. GRC reverted back to the old passing game and let Montgomery hang around but the score was not an indicator as to the game, it was never in doubt from the tip off. GRC was playing a stifling man to man defense and Montgomery County could not get the ball past the time line for most of their possessions. The officials helped them score most of the first half on some touch foul calls! JMHO!

Cardinals overcome Indians’ stall tactics for 5th straight district title.

The Indians slowed the pace, but still had trouble keeping up with the Cardinals, who captured their fifth straight district title with an 52-40 victory in front of a packed house at Norton Gymnasium.

Daniel scored 15 points, including nine of Clark’s 15 points in the third quarter. Daniel had a 3-pointer and a one-handed slam dunk on a fast break. Daniel scored the last basket of the third frame that gave the hosts a 42-28 advantage.

An ugly win is much preferable to a pretty loss; ask just about anyone. Sounds like Montgomery County tried to stay within striking distance any way they could, and shouldn't be blamed for the strategy.

Congrats to both squads on advancing to the 10th Region tournament.:thumb:

Hopefully we will have starting point guard Brandon Fruth back for the regionals. Still out with the sprained wrist.

I agree that the officiating was sub par, especially for a district final, but to say Montgomery only scored because of the refs is ignorant. Not to mention that Clark went over the back quite a few times and it was only called once.

I think this was the best chance for the Montgomery County team to win. If Clark hadn't shot 7 for 11 from three point land it could have been an interesting ball game. Not sure this game was "Never in doubt" 8 to 5 after the first quarter and given MC hits a lay-up and the two free throws at the end of the half it could have been a 3 point game. Game was not pretty but it made Coach Humphreys sweat a little bit. :irked:

Hard to play a game like this and make shots when you only get 30 shots for the game...good job by MC to only give up that many shots and good job by Clark to hit like 70% of those shots.

What game were you watching? GRC did not press. They played a tough man-man half court defense. They also played some 1-2-2 half court zone defense in the second half. There was not the first time line violation. And most of the turnovers came in the last quarter.

It was close until Clark had several breakouts making the long pass and scoring. I think that was in the third quarter.I think Clark went up about 17 points after those breakouts.Just a hard game to watch.

Wasn't this the Vandy vs UnConn offensive?

Using your resources my friend.:D

It was a good game for both teams.. Montgomery knew they couldn't win so they did what they thought they should have done...It is also a good trainer for next weeks regional because I promise you who ever has to play Brossart there gonna do the exact same thing Montgomery did last night.
