Health Care Summit

Dog and pony show... Reminded me of a Soprano's sit down or the Godfather gathering of Dons...

The worst thing the left can do for the American people is to ram this thing through the reconcilliation process. The fact that they are willing to do so, is a desperate political attempt to save face in the wake of mid-term elections. If they do this, then they are opening a huge can of worms. There is a reason for the 60 vote cloture motion. It is to keep a check and balance that a large majority is necessary to make law.

Funny Obama used Wal-mart as a positive example for allowing pooling of groups to get in a larger pool in order to get the best price. Similar to how Wal-mart gets the best deal from their suppliers by having great purchasing power. I am not sure how many times he has railed on Wal-mart for the same thing, I guess it is okay as long as it works for the current health care bill you are pitching...

As I expected Obama used it as a forum to try to push his agenda down the throats of the country. There was no real desire for bipatisan cooperation from Obama and the Democrats. McCain called him out very well.

Do you think the Republicans had a real desire for bipartisan cooperation?

Probably not, but they aren't the ones trying to push an unpopular piece of legislation down our throats either.

True dat, at least this time anyway.

The worst thing the Dems can do to themselves will be to ram this bill through using the "nuclear option"... funny how when the Dems are using the process it's called "reconcilliation" by them and the press, but when Republicans are doing it it's the "nuclear option"...

I was amazed at how clearly the Republicans presented their ideas. It became quite evident that the problem is not that the Reps have no better “ideas” to offer this process, but that the Dems aren’t willing to listen. They have no interest in true bipartisan cooperation and compromise.

It became obvious that there is remarkable consensus on many fundamental points that could be acted upon immediately... intelligent steps that could cut the cost of healthcare across the board by 33% or more right out of the gate.

There is no reason other than myopic partisan arrogance the Dems cannot pare down their oppressive 2,700 page bill and begin to implement smaller, but genuinely constructive and truly bipartisan advances… allowing for legitimate debate and dickering over the less popular components later… and outright elimination of the pork and bribes that are part of the current bill.

Of course, such a sensible course of action would make it much tougher for President Obama to take credit for sweeping legislation that would become his hallmark achievement for future generations.

Ramming the present bill through in a partisan show of force will prove to be career suicide for many Dems… including the President. That’s the problem with designing polls to give you results you want to hear… instead of seeking the genuine pulse of the people.

I agree, however the right was not exactly bipartisan when Republicans had all three houses. Although they had enough sense not to go through with the nuclear option for the approval of judicial appointments. It appears that our friends on the left may not be bright enough to realize this. If the dems go through with this it will be great for the republicans, but bad for America.

Do you think the Republicans had a real desire for bipartisan cooperation?

No.

I saw an interview with Mitch McConnell the other day and he said that he would not consider anything less than starting from scratch. Mitch came into it determined to NOT cooperate in any way unless it was started from scratch.

Probably not, but they aren't the ones trying to push an unpopular piece of legislation down our throats either.

I actually agree with a couple of his points of contention about the bill. But don't act like it was only the Democrats who were trying to be stubborn.

I agree 100%

I am American first and foremost, and Republican only marginally these days.

Whats wrong with someone wanting to start from scratch?

I don't have a problem with them starting from scratch.

My issue is that people are saying that Democrats are trying to "ram" this down our throats. Then, you have Mitch on the other side saying he'll only start from scratch.

I think there's a middle ground, and that you can't cry that the Democrats are trying to "ram" legislation down our throats an aren't trying to be bi-partisan, if you're refusing anything less than a do-over.

But that piece of legislation needs to thrown out and started from scratch. Mitch got this one right. The Dem's are absolutely trying to ram this down the throats of all of us and they are totally unwilling to listen to anything from the other side of the aisle. But I'm sure that Mitch and the rest of the Republicans would be more than willing to accept any reasonable parts of what the Dems currently have, however few they may be.

I would love to see this piece of legislation thrown out and a true bi-partisan bill enacted . That won't happen because all that I saw on television were a bunch of cowardly politicians both Republican and Democrat sitting around that table each with their own ox to gore .

Mitch is as bad as all the rest . Ditch Mitch and get someone in there with a mind of his own .
