Beechnut, maybe you know - Did Johnny Alford make the cut at Louisville?

Does Georgetown College take anyone on their team that can get into school? I looked at their website and last year's team had over 40 players.

Anyone know where Travis Smith from Simon Kenton landed?

I was wondering the same thing the other day. I was at a recruiting visit to UK the same time as he and his family were there last fall. I didn't know if he ended up going to UK or not.

If he's at UK, he is not playing baseball unless he is trying to walk on.

 

From what I understand, interest in the young man fell off dramatically during his SR season.

I have never seen the young man play, but I assumed that he had had a pretty good career up until that point or he would not have been there. The Craycrafts and the Roe's were there as well, so there was a definate interest from UK at that particular time.

Unfortunately, Johnny didn't make the cut. He's fine with it, said he had to at least try, so he'd not go thru life wondering or wishing he did.

 

On the Travis Smith front, Travis is at EKU, loving every minute of it, and has tried out for the team. I don't think the cuts have been made yet. From what I've heard, they liked what they saw. As to Travis' SR season, I think he got walked more than he was allowed to hit. Kind of put a kink in the stats and his marketability, thru no fault of his own.

From what I understand the final cuts have been made. A local made it to the final 5 players but unfortunately did not make the squad. However , I dont know those that did make the cut.

Georgetown may have started with 40 players last year, but they only returned 8 players this fall. Many decided to leave the team for various reasons. Coach Hagen brought in ~35 freshmen this fall. I would guess about half of those were awarded scholarships. He plans to have a JV and Varsity squad. That was also the intentions last year, but the numbers didn't support it.

Yeah, that coach watched him play and they were in need of a catcher, so they had him come down for a workout and he seemed like a natural fit for WKY. Plus he would have the opportunity to go in and play every day and that may not have happened once he went on to UK following juco.
