I thought this thread was primarily in regards to regular season games... I think post-season tournaments are an entirely different animal. Not saying home court doesn't hold SOME advantages for the home team, but there are factors that mitigate it somewhat in the post-season.

 

In the 8th, Henry County hasn't won the region since the 8th moved to Henry County HS in 1963... They last won the region in 1962 - the year BEFORE it moved to their home gym.

 

But for some strange reason, the issue seems to come up just about when tourney time is about to start. Can't figure that one out for the life of me.

I figured if anyone would understand the myth of home court advantage, it would be someone from Montgomery County.:thumb:

 

This years team has been an exception to all rules. It was not listed in anyones top 10 in the tenth and most felt if they could finish at .500 for the season it would be a great accomplishment.

Thank you. I couldn't have ever figured that out because there is no such thing as mythical home court advantage, but there is a Mason home court advantage along with every other team that plays.:lol:

True, but Henry County hasn't exactly been blessed with a lot of region championship-caliber teams over that period. They've been just like the rest of the 8th Region in that they've been under the thumbs of Shelby, Scott and Oldham most of that time.

Okay, if talent always wins out, as some of you have said, why do schools do so much to create an advantage? Black outs, white outs, bands behind visiting teams, student sections, etc.

But, as discussed on previous threads, most teams are playing in front of way less than packed houses. So maybe the "no such thing as home court advantage" theory has passed down to where our students and communities no longer support our teams. "We are not as talented as they are and there is nothing I can do to change that so I am just going to stay home. Nothing I can do will help"

Here is an interesting concept: does Mason County win the 10th region becuase they have the best players, coaches, community support and feeder programs that cannot be matched in the 10th region? YES Mason County wins because Mason County has all the above variables that equal a winning formula were as people who complain are plainly jealous there teams can't beat the Royals on a consistent basis. As far as the Fieldhouse goes the one year there was a far superior team to Mason, 2005, the best team won the region at the Fieldhouse the Pendleton County Wildcats. The best team wins the tournament, plain and simple!

I don't think anyone is arguing that the best team does not win. I have seen Mason County win in the Fieldhouse, Montgomery Co, and in Bank of KY. Each time I have felt they were the best team. Hats off to them, their community and their support. I was there also watching when Pendleton County won, they were the better team, but even as good as they were. I am sure that their were numerous thoughts going through their heads on the bus ride to Maysville about playing in the fieldhouse. There is an advantage, to playing at home.
