The kid putting his finger to his mouth is embarrassing and if I was an administrator at Two Rivers I would call that kid into my office and have a long talk with him about representing the school. It just looks bad and obviously the way those coaches act they are not going to do anything about it.

I was told the boy you speak of is only a 6th grader playing up to 7th. As a parent and coach, my son would have a seat next to me until he could understand how his actions reflect upon himself. Not surprising that the coach allows this to go on, he is loud, aggressive, and out of control.

 

 

Holmes 7th has a nice well rounded ballclub. The guards are quick and shoot the ball well. They have twin towers that are skilled players. Kenny (#11) must have had 30 points and 20 rebounds against the guard/forward line-up of the Birds. Beau Hoge had his best game of the season for HMS. Urlage was money from 3 point land. Weyer/Harris/Whitford tried to battle the big men from Holmes, they were just too much. If seeding holds up, HMS will get a third shot at the Bulldogs in the postseason.

 

Good luck to Holmes in this weekends 7th grade state tournament. They have the pieces in place to make a nice run.

I was not at the game; but I can tell you I would not tolerate a boy doing that to the fans and opposing coaches. I can see a boy making the mistake and doing it once. Kids are kids, but the coaching staff should have corrected it! I am never a fan of a coach that is bigger than the game. IMO stop whipping his towel around and discipline the kids. It has nothing to do with being Holmes kids. I know a coach here in Fort Thomas that is going to have to correct a boy from making a salute after every tackle. I have a couple boys that already has said if he doesn't stop it they will. That is not any better and I will have a discussion with the coach and league to resolve it next season. I think the other posters are saying the coaching staff needs to not let this type of action take place.

If someone else does something that ridiculous and moronic during a game then it needs to be mentioned. I applaud those coaches for devoting their time and enthusiasm to those kids but they need to also instill some discipline and teach life lessons.

Highlands at Holmes 6th and 8th grade games for tomorrow have been cancelled and rescheduled for Wednedsay at 5:00 and 6:00 at HMS.

That is funny. Just stating a fact that is known throughout Northern Kentucky and that is when the game is close at Sharp you know who is going to get the calls and that is from first hand experience.

That's funny because our coaches complain about not getting any calls at home.

 

And for the record, I have been involved as coach and parent for 5 years now and the officials are the same all over.

And for the record, 2 of the 4 officials are not from Pendleton County and have/do ref for the BBA at the JV level. The BBA assigns officials for the 10th and 11th region from Alexandria to Berea.

 

The other is from a family that has officiated for 30 some years including about 15-20 as a 9th region official.

 

I have personally been teed up 4-6 times by these Sharp officials that you say are supposedly giving me the close calls.

 

When we travel, we see the home players getting a lot protection by Boone County officials, Newport officials, Holmes officials and so on and so on and so on.

 

Difference is that we don't get on here and whine about it.:thumb:

It is middle school basketball and these men/women are giving of their time for what amounts to little more than pocket change.

 

While I don't always agree with their calls, I thank them for taking time away from their family to come and support middle school athletics as they do.

 

As far as the calls, what do you expect from middle school referees?

 

The players ability to play is not equal to a varsity or collegiate player, so why would you expect the refereeing to be?

 

Best are in NBA/College. Next best at the HS varsity level. Next best is JV and it keeps going down the line.

 

Regardless of their ability, they are out there helping out.

 

And from my 21 years involved in coaching, the problems with the refs are usually the tilted vision the fans are looking at the game with.
