A team that barely finished in the top half of their conference and then lost in the first round of the conference tournament. Sounds pretty common for a team like that to miss the Big Dance.

February 4, 201016 yr Is this really the case? How many Big East teams have been "screwed" since they went to 16? Like I've said before, if you finish above .500 in conference you will probably make the NCAA tourny. I can't recall too many who haven't since new Big East was formed. Providence last year and maybe UC and the Cuse. So to answer your question, not many... If you read the actual article on Zags Blog, there are a few Big East coaches that were asked about it and said they'd like it. It also mentions Coach K being in favor of it, etc. I don't think the conference as a whole, like KSR is implying, is lobbying for it to happen.

They were 19-12 according to ESPN after the Syracuse loss, which put them under .500 against conference opponents. After starting out 13-2, they finished 6-10. I don't have any numbers to compare it with teams that got in that year but just at a glance, it doesn't seem like they got the shaft.

Then you disagree with every analyst on the planet that said they got screwed. That was the year 7 of 10 in the selection room were mid major, and several non deserving teams got in. Air Force getting in that year was a total joke...

That speaks more to a faulty selection crew rather than an unwritten rule that says only eight from the Big East are allowed in.

So do tell why there has yet to be 9 teams get in from the best conference? Should the SEC and Big 12 be capped at 6? Of course not. There have been at least 5 teams kept out who have been .500 or better in the league over the last 5 years...

Maybe UC was screwed in 2006 but I imagine there are other schools who thought they were too. One day they will get nine in, I don't think it's a full blown conspiracy to not let it happen.
