I'm not so sure I buy the idea that ticket prices are too high. Those same kids don't seem to have problems getting the new game($30+) for their gaming systems.

Couldn't agree more. Think of the increase at the concession stand, as well.

Here's what I personally do not buy:

 

"I don't know when my team plays anymore." Folks, its not the 1700s when we had to have a town crier tell us what's going on.

 

"They used to always be Friday night." Please. Change upsets your apple cart that much. Should I assume if it were your favorite high school football team that had to play on a Saturday instead of a Friday that you would be able to make the mental adjustment?

 

"Title IX....." Girls don't deserve to play on Friday nights?

 

Now if you tell me Friday night is your only night off from work that makes sense.

Some of those girls can flat out play! There are some guys who could learn a thing or two about fundamentals just by watching them. I tend to forget to pay enough attention to them myself, and then if I catch a game, it's like WOW!!! These girls got game! :ylsuper:

I agree also, want to add one, anyone heard of the "MALL", free to get in, weathers always good, decent parking and whole lot of socializing goes on there, and a lot of concession stands to chose from there for food. Good hours to.

This is more reflected toward the student aspect of the conversation.

As I said, this is the 6th year we've been on the air, and this is our worst totals for listeners.

Campbell County is one of the worse for charging to get in games. I went to take my grade school aged kids to a soccer game and they wanted $5.00 each, no discount for the kids. It was the last time I went there. I don;t mind paying $5.00 but not for a kid that is probably more worried about what they are selling at the concession stand than the game.

 

They should pay you to watch a soccer game not charge you.

I asked my wife at my son's game the other day why the cheerleaders only seem to be at 1 out of 4 home games. She said they only cheer competitions and they cheer at the girls games. The only time they cheer the boys game is when the girls play before and they decide to stick around. I said they makes perfect sense. I don't even think they do routines on the floor anymore.

I was in the 16th region last night and watched Russell play Greenup at the greenhouse; there was over 3000 people for that district rivalry. Huge student section for both teams; just a great atmosphere for high school basketball. But I will agree, most of the games I have attended this year attendance seems to be down.

Thank you!! As a father of two girls if it wasn't for Title IX they would not be afforded the opportunity that they have. And I agree the fundamentals are much better.

I'm not being a jerk when I say your questions are irrelevant to the issue. The move to allow girls to play in "prime time" had nothing to do with dollars. Most schools do not have their boys play on Friday nights if their girls are playing on Friday.

The discussion is about lack of fans at ballgames - both boys and girls basketall and other sports.

 

Both sports (boys and girls) have some fans that only like one or the other and that is fine.

 

School pride is supporting all activities - sports, humanities and academics.

IMO there is nothing wrong with boys and girls playing on the same night, most students can't/won't travel to watch their school, so if one team is home and the other away - at least the students and community can attend the game at home.

 

It is great that the boys went to the girls games that you are talking about, but to increase the attendance we need to make it convenient for more than those 15-20 players. We need to make the games convenient for everyone else - students and community. Once we get people attending home games, then we can worry about one team not being able to watch the other.
