DSAS 16s switch to Shining Star

Featured Replies

Yes, and the former DSAS 16s team that will be going over to Shining Star is the entire team. SS has about 30+ teams, so this will not effect any other SS team, there is one addition I hear, other than that it's the same team from last year.

The entire roster and coaching staff is coming to the Shining Star Sports program. The team decided to make a change and the Shining Star program was a good fit. Coach Davis will continue to coach the team.

The Shining Star Sports-Pittman team will still be together and play for Shining Star Sports. They are coming off of a very successful AAU season and look forward to building off of that success.

Both of these teams are very talented and will represent the Shining Star program very well. Both teams will play a very challenging tournament schedule.

This merger will allow for Shining Star to have two of the top teams in the state of Kentucky and will draw a great deal of attention for all of its athletes. This is a very talented group of kids that will feed off of each other.

Should be a very exciting spring/summer for the program.

Thanks for the clarification. Good luck to all of your teams.

Are either of these teams tied to a shoe company?

I believe that SS is a Jordan team.

I'll take that 7 and go:thumb:

I don't think all those players are playing on the same team. Pike, Pawset, Gilbert and Shutte played with SS last year. With T. Brown, Giesler, the King twins and Smith, they'll be too many for one team.

You are right. Here are most of the ones that played on the 16U DS team:

Robbie Stenzel

Timmy Knipp

George Fant

Remy Abell

Shanklin, from WC,

2 players from Christian Co

Travis Purvis was supposed to, but was not released by the Dr's to play.

If someone wanted to put together another HS all star team to compete with them and work out the logistics, it is possible to put together a team to compete with them.

Other than winning the State AAU championship I think it kind of defeats the purpose of kids playing summer ball, you can only put five of them on the court at one time.

True, but when you play 3+ games in a weekend, a team like this would not wear down with the ability to switch 5 an 5 as much as a team with less numbers in talent.

True as well, But again you have to look at what your focus is. Are you truley trying to get your athletes exposure in front of the scouts or are you trying to make sure you win ball games. I understand there is a little of give and take in that. You want to make it to Sunday when the scouts are around to see those finals with what is supposed to be the best. But in the early games when some of those smaller school D1 scouts are watching, you may be hurting a kid that may need that floor time for exposure. I see it both ways. I just hope these programs and coaches do what they do for the kids and not to necessarily add up W's. The concept is supposed to be to help these kids get to the next level.

As for exposure, the AAU circuit gives the players a chance to be seen, but they also have to put in the work distributing game footage to draw the scouts in. Even inn AAU, there's very few that receive personalized attention from the scouts, but if you have put your game film out there early, the scouts know what to look for when they're in your area.

As it looks, this will be two seperate teams, but when needed (due to injury, vacations or whatever) they could combine players from the teams. So this could go either way for the merger, but I see it as a good thing, because now the Shining Stars program can seriously compete with talent of Indiana Elite teams that builds teams with kids from other countries.

I always thought AAU rules required players to be from the same state. Can someone fill me in on how players from other countries play AAU on an Indiana team?

They go to prep school here in the states. Some of these kids have not been home since they got here and some have been here since the 8th grade.
