Deal with it? Oh, I can deal with it because it doesn't affect me one way or another, but I don't have to agree with it. The KHSAA has those transfer rules in place so things like that don't happen. The only problem is they very very seldom adhere to their own rules, so athletes transferring will only get worse and worse. Is it fair to those schools that lose those athletes - ahhh, no! Do they have to deal with it? The question is, "Do they really have a choice?" The bottom line is - "Win at all costs!" If it means getting transfers in, then so be it. Since the KHSAA is not going to police their own policies, why not just have an open transfer rule so everyone has an equal chance?

After reading these posts about possible recruiting, transferring, etc.. It makes wonder, aren't we forgetting maybe the most important part of this? What happens to the kid who is replaced by the transfer player? Most of these kids have been under the impression since middle school that hard work and dedication to the program, like going to the team camps, open gyms, conditioning and playing with their teammates in summer leagues,will pay off and just when they are about to get their chance, a transfer comes in and suddenly they go from a major role to a minor role because the transfer will play or they wouldn't have switched schools in the first place. Won't that player wonder what all the talk about hard work and dedication means when they get pushed aside? How does the coach justify what they have preached for years? The next time some of you supporters who don't think transfers are that big of a deal, think of the kid who pays for it.

i get your point - I believe a person once told me that Coach Fookes has only won ONE regional without a transfer on the team. I know she's has many more than any other school; maybe even up to double figures by now. At the end of the season, the question always comes up - "What transfer will Boone get next season?"

 

 

When ya get a moment...add up those numbers and we'll see...you might very well be surprised. The Boone transfers seem to have been a little more high profile which is why I think it appears that way.

Transfers come to Boone County to be coached by Nell Fookes. Her record speaks for itself. Just look at last year. NOBODY thought they would win District, then Regionals and make a trip to State! Everyone always wants to make excuses when they don't win.

My experience has been that coaches tend to play everyone who can possibly help them. If a coach has seven (7) players that can help them they go seven (7) deep. If a coach has seven (7) players that can help them and they get a transfer that can help them then suddenly they go eight (8) deep. Yes there are a finite number of minutes in a game and yes more players might mean that some players time is reduced, however, IF you can play the game, then you will see time on the court.

It just strikes me that alot of posters will talk about important issues like honesty, hard work, sportsmanship, character building, etc. but will take the "get better or get beat" attitude toward the kid who bought into it,as long as the transfer helps their team win. It doesn't matter what you think of me or my opinion, just remember that kid sitting on the bench wondering where the transfer was when they were doing all the hard work. The recepients of the good fortune will always see the justification. I'm out.

You didn't mention the fact that the point guard (and leading scorer/assists) for last year's Boone County team was a transfer student.

No she was not a transfer. She began her high school career at Boone.
