Did Moss and Davis go up against Towles down low? Was wondering how that went since these post players are regarded as some of the best in the 9th. How did Moss score all of her points? Looks like Davis had a lot of free throws.

Not to take anything away from Boone, because they do have a LOT of other talented players, but Moss would make most of the teams in the 9th region contenders for the title.

It was one thing to get her there, it is another to make her the player she is becoming. Nell works her hard and cuts no slack. At the pace of development I see she should be a Ms Basketball contender and then some by her senior year. Time will tell.

Boone's coaches keep her down low in the post and feed her. Noone has stopped her so far.

Boone started fast and jumped to an early lead which they held. Late in the 4th HHS got it to within 6 but later in the fourth Boone again pulled a double digit lead. Solid game by Boone.

Have you sat behind Nell's bench? I say that she is harder on her "star" players than any other players.

One additional thought though. When you start your post with "I don't know" anything after that becomes speculative and subject to some interesting interpretation from those who understand all the dynamics involved.

Coach Fookes had no hand in getting Moss to Boone. That was a decision made by Moss and her mother and approved by the Boone County BOE and the KHSSA.

 

Nell has been an instrumental figure in the improvement shown by Moss over the past couple of seasons but Moss is a "happy camper" at Boone and that's a huge factor.

Moss actually plays a double post at Boone and is often away from the basket. Last night she missed her first 3 shoots, all close in and heavily contested. She then hit her next 11, not including a past mid-court "throw" at the end of the half. Five of those shots were face-up 12-15 footers.

 

She does score a lot inside because it's difficult to stop her. She has scored over and around some of the best "big" players in the state, all taller than she. The most formidible defensively was Sarah Hammond of Rockcastle County. She is long (legit 6-2), long armed, good jumper, outstanding shot blocker. Moss had 27 against Hammond.

 

The fact that Moss is now hitting the shots away from the basket makes her that much more difficult to defend.

 

As to Boone "feeding" her, I guess that depends on perspective. Do they look for her in their sets? Of course, why wouldn't they, but she gets her shots within the offense. She is averaging 15.6 shots per game to get 22.1 PPG. There are other players in Region 9 averaging that many shots per game and only Lauren Tibbs is above 20 PPG (~23.5 last time I checked).

 

The idea expressed that she could become a candidate for Miss BB in Kentucky? That's a ways off but it very well could be. I expect her to just get better over the next couple years at Boone as she continues to learn and understand more about the game and is tutored by Coach Fookes to utilize her talent.

As for Moss, she is a Boone County Rebel and I doubt that's going to change. What has happened in the past is irrevelant. Good luck to her.
