Still aren't as good as the Phillies.

I'm the biggest Braves fan around, and no way are they going to go to the World Series.

We trade our best starting pitcher (because of money) and get Melky from Yankees? Umm, bad move, then we waste money on a washed up Billy Wagner and Troy Glaus with HOPES of them returning to their younger form.

Chipper is on the downside of his career and the Braves might not even finish ahead of the Marlins — thank god for the Nats.

They won't finish any higher than 3rd in their division..

He's still got a ways to go before he becomes a real good luck charm like say, Steve Kerr. The only way he ends up back in the series this year is if he gets traded to or released and picked up by a contender.

Oh brother where to start. Braves adding Hinske was a solid bench move but nothing more. They have too many "ifs" and if everyone stays healthy then they will be a tough team to beat.

 

 

Have to see how the rest of the offseason plays out.

I think the Braves may finish second, but still wont make the playoffs. I can see a team from the west making the Wild Card.

The main piece coming from the Yankees wasn't Melky. It was Arodys Vizcaino.

 

Wagner is pretty old, I agree. But I think he still has something left.

 

Glaus is in his early 30's. He had one year with a bad injury but other than that he has been pretty good. I think he can do well this year as well.

 

Chipper will need to improve on last years performance. But even he has said that if he doesn't, he will retire.

I think they got a good team built now, but they still didn't get that good corner outfielder that can hit with some power. Even Johnny Damon would have been a nice addition.

 

With Melky, McClouth, Hinske, Heyward, Diaz in the outfield they should be OK, but I'd like to see them move Melky and get someone a little more productive. I've heard there are a few teams who would be interested in acquiring him. However, I don't see that happening. I think they stick with what they got now.

 

I love their pitching rotation, even without Vazquez. Hanson, Lowe, Hudson, Kawakami, Jurjjens, is a nice rotation IMO. Hanson and Jurjjens will be good for a while. Both are very young.

 

As for the other positions. I think it depends on how Glaus does. If Glaus comes back and hits like he can, the Braves can be pretty good IMO. If he struggles coming off last years injury...they could be in trouble. If Chipper struggles they could be in trouble as well.

 

So I agree that they have a ton of "if's" right now. But they have potential to be good.

He's early 30's but with a ton of mileage on him. He's missed at least 45 games in 4 out of the last 7 years. He's a big guy at 245 lbs and in baseball those are the kind of guys that seem to break down at an earlier age. He's still got power but he's a huge injury risk. Given their injury histories I'd say its highly unlikely that they get over 120 games out of both Jones and Glaus. If they don't I don't see them being a major factor.

Its not like they broke the bank to sign Glaus. He came pretty cheap.

 

He played 151 games with St. Louis 2 years ago, so its not like he can't make it through a season. And when he does make through most of a season, he does well. He hits for right around 30 homers, which is what the Braves need.
